I know I probably need to work on talking to my customers more, but personally I bust my ass everyday making sure the customers get what they need. Answer questions the best I can, and if I don't know, I'll ask someone else. I'll even follow through afterwards to make sure everything went alright with them...
Not to mention I think I'm the only one cleaning the SCO's anymore since we got new people. (I spent 2 hours on a midnight shift deep-cleaning everything. Only to come back to a 6am shift two days later to find it all a complete train wreck...)
On top of that, despite being there since we opened I've gone from 24-30 hours to nothing but 18 the past 3-4 months... While newer people, who came with the past 2-3 have been getting 30 hours... (I'm not saying I should get more but could we not atleast all get 24?)
I thought I'd did pretty good. So, while I didn't want to give myself a bad review, I thought I'd give myself a 'meh' one... so it'd 'cut under' what I thought I'd be getting...
Everything I got was 'acceptable'. Everything. Except for dependability which was 'satisfactory'. So, I said I'd thought I was satisfactory in all of them but nope... apparently I'm merely acceptable.
I was a 3 out of 5...
What really bothered me though, was the 'appearance' one. I'd thought I'd be at the very least satisfactory. Because I've always been in uniform. Never forgot my t-shirts/windbreaker with the logo on it. Never wore pants that weren't within the rules. Always wore tennis shoes and NEVER have I forgot my name badge...
I was kinda confused... There were no comments about how I should improve on anything so I asked a supervisor later... she ofcourse said to ask the manager when she gets back since she was the one who did the eval. (HR read it to me, my manager is on vacation.)
But she did answer me about the appearance one... I'd asked her what I could possibly, if anything, do to improve that and she advised maybe putting my hair up, maybe earrings and maybe some make-up...
I never wear make-up. I never wear jewelry... but really? In order to get a better rating I have to literally pretty myself up because my simply coming in in my uniform isn't enough..?
It's always clean, I mean, I wash it everyday. I take a shower right before work everyday regardless of time and... make up is the solution to a better eval?
I won't lie. It's been bothering me all day. I don't think the supervisor was being too serious, probably just a back-handed comment. But I stood in the bathroom trying to fix up my hair in the mirror and god... it totally ruined my day. I don't even know if I should ask the manger about this one when she comes back because I'm a little worried about what the answer will be...
Sounds to me like you're being discriminated against because of your looks. Just keep doing what you've been doing and if someone brings the subject up again just say, "I'm sorry you feel that way." If they try to threaten you with your job, sue them.
That sucks. But then again it's VERY hard to get a stellar (perfect) evaluation. Sounds to me like you did ok on all other aspects but they needed to (didn't actually) on your appearance. Make yourself up? Seriously? It's a retail job. Not some damn fancy extravagant ball. I had my eval and they said I was "too task oriented." No ****. I go there to work. Not socialize. I prefer to be left alone to get my job done and over with. But we all know that ain't gonna happen. Sooooo... On that note I can only say keep going foward.
Don't take the eval too seriously. It's just something they have to do and it's common for them to just put 3s on everything. You'll never get a 5 and 4 is uncommon. Try not to take it too much to heart.

If you show up when you're scheduled and on time, you should at least get a 5 for attendance. I've always hated the reviews because a good review doesn't mean an increase in pay and a bad review just makes you mad. So why bother?

Oh believe me, when it comes time for my first round of evals, people are gonna be crying! They have NO IDEA the ways I'm gonna ding them down to a barely par/you're lucky I don't fire you eval. hahahahahaha. Can't WAIT.
Don't worry about that, most of the management don't even worry about the evaluations, they just mark whatever they need to put to get it done.
But as far as the appearance thing, don't let them bother you. I don't wear makeup at work either, i've never been the girly type to do that, and if anyone dared to complain about it i'd probably tell them where they could put their makeup. lol
Evalutions are like toilet paper to me they don't mean **** ,My paycheck is not based off performance and they cannot CA you over it so why you worried.Heck I haven't had one in over 5 years.Only management pay is based off of performance if your hourly they can take that paper and wipe there ass with it.
i got mine like 3 weeks ago. I was hired in December of last year.
Lol - told I needed to work on NOT clocking in 1 - 2 minutes late.
Nothing was positive about it.
So I rated my self with how i honestly felt, and then, used the back side of that paper to let them know my thoughts of how this company appears to me. Lol
I had a dept head tell me she doesn't give out high reviews cause she doesn't get high reviews. these are just crap not worth the paper they are printed on dont sweat them!
Our department head gave everybody 5's the year before last. She didn't want to have to deal with discussing the reviews with the employees. She just said, "I gave everybody a 5 on everything." We didn't do them this last year.
. . . asked her what I could possibly, if anything, do to improve that and she advised maybe putting my hair up, maybe earrings and maybe some make-up...
Did she give comparable advice to male associates? Get a toupee; comb your ear hair over better; uncork the Musk cologne?
