This new system is screwed up. People are quitting left and right. There also calling in. Hours have been cut so bad that one call in screws everything up. Also overtime is not allowed anymore so if trucks don't get worked in 8 hours they sit in the back for the next day. How do you work all of your back stock the next day first, finish the truck from the prior day, and work a new truck? On average grocery does between $220,000-1,200,000 in the Knoxville Tennessee area in a week. This is a disaster.
What are you talking about? Sounds like the process is working flawlessly like it should. :)
We don't have time to run backstock everyday. That would be like running a 1500 case truck and then run the 1500 case live load back to back with 5 people. We run all the backstock one day a week. In between that day, I cherry pick holes because none of the 5 people on days do replenishment during the daytime.
Our CAO changed format a few months ago but I don't think it is the final Order Evolution yet. The forecasting is whacked and over orders. I catch a lot of stuff but miss a lot of stuff too.
It is not your problem. Just go in and stock until your shift is over. Do not speak up about the problems or they will somehow point fingers at the chicken in the coup that is sticking it's head up higher then others. Act dumb and like all is well.

Unfortunately, the store managers expect the department manager to make the impossible work. I am a night department manager. They don't want to hear excuses.
If my coworkers would work efficiently and atleast 90% of what the ddp says, we would be ok. But, I have a lot of slow people(unable to move any faster. top speed is slow) and others that like to slack off because the slow people "aren't doing very much so they are not going to do much".
We do not have time to run all the backstock everyday. It takes 25 hours to run thru all the backstock, 28 hours to run the live load and 15 hours for misc. 4 people are scheduled to get 30 hours of work done a night. We do get a lot done in the time we are there on most nights.
Then, on top of that, we have 5-6 people on days that are useless. They get hours for grocery but they are not used for grocery.
If the store manager wants me to step down, then fine. I don't do miracles. And, I am not completely delusional as has been suggested by another post calling me a troll. :)
Ps, all my store managers speak highly of me. I get a lot of crap done overnight but there is always more that needed to be done.

Aw, ok you sound legit. Im so used to seeing troll posts now thats all. You sound like you know how to run your department for sure but all my point is, is that being a jerk about it gets you nowhere... Bad managers dont get 100% effort any time (not saying you are one because some people refuse to work no matter what too). Then again some managers let crappy employees get away with it too.

My manager has us down stacking one truck per load alongside the new freight. It's an effective system. But at the same time tedious, because most times some of the stuff on the trucks didn't sell but you still have to bring it to the floor every night.

That is actually a good idea. I might try that and see how it goes.
We keep water and pop back stock on pallets. I like to run them when I pick up back stock but don't always have time. Same with paper towels, etc. Those aisles are the fastest movers. The other aisles can wait to be run on staggered days.

Don't panic! My feeling wasn't hurt. :)
I get irritated with my crew sometimes. I am laid back and don't run around on a power trip. They take advantage of that.
we've been doing this order [r]evolution for awhile now. During our walk through to introduce it, we were told we should pull backstock carts out onto the floor and run them along with the truck. We've yet to do this once! With the lack of hours, it's quite difficult to get the truck done to begin with, let alone the truck AND backstock. We had a 40 hour employee go out on leave and his hours just disappeared. His job is being done by another employee who now has to do his own job plus the job of the other guy. Needless to say, both jobs can't possibly be done to the highest standard. Half assed work is common place now.
