I'm a part time employee at kroger- I work in the floral department. there is 3 of us and a set number of hours- which i understand. When all 3 of us are working(meaning nobody is on vacation) I get 17 hours. Which isn't great hours but i can always grab a few extra hours from another department. Well next week i have no hours. Literally 0. I have a car bill to pay and I can't if I don't get any hours. So my question is, Isn't there a minimum amount of hours they are required to give? And how do I fix this? Do I go to the union, or what? If it matters i'm 16 but its summer right now so I can work up to 40 hours. I don't know how to quite go about this. It was the floral leads first time making the schedule(management handled it until this point) so i'm hoping that it was just a mistake (im calling tomorrow to find out what happened) but what do i do if it wasnt a mistake? please help if you can because I love working In floral and It's actually what I want to do for a career(florist) so I don't want to lose this job.
They have two scedgle you at least 15 hrs two keep, you on scedgle not sure you still on 90,day,probationary if so they can let you go any, time if not than 15 is rule heaven if you're bottom of scedgle
Here, it's a minimum of 12 hours UNLESS there's no hours to give, then they can give 0 (it's a really stupid loophole i know) but if you really fight for it, you should at least get paid for the 12 hours.
Call the store manager first and ask. Then, ask the union rep what the rules are. Here it is a minimum of 12 hours. I have seen cashiers scheduled 0 hours for a week at a time and the store gets away with it. If it was 0 hours for 2 weeks in a row, then they need to give you proper lay-off notification so you can file for unemployment.
We had a utility clerk that was always forgotten on the schedule so the store manager always added him to the schedule after the schedule only gave him 0 hours. I am leaning towards it being a clerical error and they forgot to add hours for you. I am curious what you find out.
If one was scheduled overtime and you had no hours, i think you could fight for some of those hours. They shouldn't be giving out overtime unless the people with less hours can't work it.
