How long does it take for a new Seafood lead to get his new pay?

I was just recently promoted to Seafood lead, and have not received my new pay yet. It has been a month and two weeks.  I understand these things take some time but this is just too much. I currently have no seafood backup, and, with the amount of overtime I have, I have been working like 6 and a half days a week, every week since promotion. Seriously, nobody has been bumped up to be my back up, but I have been trying to train some of the closers to help me out. There's only one guy wo opens on my two off days, very grudgingly, and he only sets up the case and that's it for seafood.

Also, with my time at Kroger, even before this promotion, my pay should have gone up from $8.50 to $8.75 in mid November, but it hasn't.

So I'm not very happy right now...

How long does it take to get this new pay through? We have a newish meat cutter who has experience cutting for Albertson's, but after 5 months, he's patiently waiting for his pay to go up from $9. I am not waiting that long.

I have been keeping record of all my hours since the promotion. They owe me $1,000, if not more, in retro pay alone. Better pay up, Kroger, and soon too please.

Depends on your contract.  You are probably in the position on probation for the first 6 months.

Ask your union rep in the store.  If you don't like that answer, go to the district union rep.  Ask for backpay.

When I became a manager, my pay was increased a $1 for the first 6 months.  After that, it was increased $3 more per my contract.  I was at top pay for a clerk when I became a manager.  The increases were quick.  Your mileage may vary.

ps.

They are not going to retro pay unless the union steward demands it thru a grievance.

The store manager literally told me, while in front of the market manager too, that I would start at $14. something. He literally said start. My market manager will back me up, he's one of the best workers in the store, and actually has my back.

But my point was that my pay hasn't gone up ONE SINGLE CENT since promotion. For over a month. Plus everyone, including the managers have been telling me that I have been doing a great job, much better than my predecessor.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look a bit more into my contract.

You might need to grieve it but you are definitely owed it.

As soon as I got transferred to my new store, i was getting the pay as relief pay, not the actual position, but it's still the right pay rate.

As far as I know, yes there is a probationary period for new department heads, but it doesn't affect pay rate. It just means they could demote you back down to clerk during that time. At least for my contract.

Find out what is required to be seafood lead in your district. where I'm at it was required that I take a series of CBT's in order for certification to be official. The kicker is my store mnager prevented me from takinfg said CBT's at every turn so that she didn't have to raise my pay.

Make sure you've met all the requirements for the promotion to be official. Otherwise the union will do nothing to help you.

Oh boy. I've been at this store for a year and three months now, but only worked as seafood back up from July to the end of October. Before, I was just a general clerk, focusing on meat. I never did anything complicated with seafood beyond steaming, refilling the service case, closing, and sometimes working things like crab meat or rarely frozen. My point is that I really only had a little over three months with actual responsibility in seafood, learning everything. Plus the last lead was crap, she did not care, and I am still cleaning up her messes.

Upon promotion, I had no formal training. I asked, but they all said no, there is nothing. I asked about tests, classes, learning more complex things on the rf handheld scanner, freaking powerpoint training. All I got was a nitpicky seafood guy who came in and fussed over every tiny detail setting up the case, which I already knew how to do, maybe just not quite as fancy as they want it.

Seriously, at my first department head meeting, my department was the only one over ordering, and I was so embarrassed. I'm still not trained properly, what do you guys expect? Track y sales on the handheld? How?! Nobody's helping me out!

Anyway. My point is that now I'm scared the union or whoever will deny my qualification and not give me my retro pay.

Even though I've been working as the seafood lead for over a month.

With no back up at all.

Working six days a week almost every week.

Still only getting paid $8.50.......

..................

And as I said, we have a newer butcher who has been waiting 5 months for his pay to go up. He's our main butcher and is only paid $9 and hour. Crazy.
