I have been a cashier a few weeks and I've done 2 hours on self check out at night when I had 3 people!
I'm on self checkout tomorrow for the afternoon but I was just wondering how do you scan the big items like cases of water? We have a handheld device (not iPad) but no one has explained to me yet how they do it, do you use the handheld device? We do have a handheld scanner but I've not used it yet!
We have really old Self Checks at our store, and the way the customer does it, is normally by code sometimes or by using the "search for item" option. Just don't be surprised if they have a few if you get called over to unlock them. The machine will only allow so many "item not bagged" allowances before it locks down and an attendant must override it. Do it at the station though, NOT the handheld as this is an easy way to inspect their cart and make sure they aren't sneaking out with something else they shouldn't be. ALWAYS do this. B.o.B still exists and is not to be relied on for the LaneHawks to find. They are tools. We are the ones who must still make the judgement calls, regardless of what tech we are given to do our jobs.
