So long story short, management has started making up stories about me doing things I'm not supposed to so that they can get around the union to fire me. I only make about 60 a week and have been thinking about leaving for a while, so I don't think this is worth a union grievance. I really don't want to go back after today though, so can I give them a letter saying my resignation is effective immediately, or do I have to wait 2 weeks?
No you don't have to give a two week notice to quit. If you don't however most likely you'll never be able to work there again. I'm not sure if it'll be company wide ban or just for that store though. At least that's how it is here.
I don't know if this is true or not, but what I have heard is that when a person quits and she/he is no longer listed as "active" in the system, a store manager can check a box that marks the associate is not eligible for re-hire, so if the associate applies at a Kroger store in the future, the HR manager will get a prompt when pulling up the application that states the following person has been marked as ineligible for re-hire. This may be true only for my division, all divisions or not true at all.
But the answer ultimately is no, you don't have to give a two weeks notice, or any notice at all. Employees just stop showing up fairly frequently at Kroger stores, so you wouldn't be the first and you won't be the last.

Ask yourself would Kroger give me two week's severance pay if they fired me?
