Working in Produce

Is probably the reason I haven't finally quit even though I've been a tempted many times! Does anyone else really enjoy working in produce?

I love it. Tables or greenrack, I like stacking things nice and putting the workmanship into it. Keeping it straight.  I got some good hands (that's what the ladies say).  I feel like I make a difference in my department.  Too bad the company doesn't see that.  Or maybe they do. Either way I feel like I'm just a number to them, but at least customers compliment me.  Nothing like an 80 year old woman coming into your department and telling you she loves to shop there for the visual orgy (hopefully she's not talking about me lol)

I used to be really big on making things picture perfect too but I learned that it takes too much time and all that matters is everything is conditioned well, laid straight and properly, and is fresh. 8 hours goes by really fast and you don't get a lot done when you are too busy checking every nook and cranny on the green rack and you still don't get done with everything. I learned from my produce lead and when corporate do their walks, as long as it is full and fresh, it doesn't matter if it looks like it's out of a produce stock photo because it will get messed up as soon as a customer starts digging through it.

Your produce lead? Do you not have a department head?

I do! Our produce delivery guy always brings me fresh produce for my personal stash. Not too much at a time but like greens and some fruits and I eat them while I work. This is until I found out he was taking them right off the truck and it was actually shorting our store on produce little by little. Well, I quit for a week and when no one said anything about me doing it previously I told him to bring it on. Now he is bringing me twice as much and I don't have to pay for lunch any more!
