Okay so this may be a dumb question, but tomorrow is my first day at Kroger, and I'm not sure how I will know what to do. Will someone be there to tell me or should I just hop onto a register? Should I go and get a member of management?
Also I was never taught how to use the phone if I have a problem, how do I use it? Should I just ask the person next to me???

When you go into work, walk up to the service desk. You'll be in uniform so you'll catch their attention, and tell them you are a new hire. They will get someone to get you, probably your CSR or supervisor that day, to make you a number so you can sign into the registers and then assign a cashier to train you. You wont be able to get on a register without a number, someone could let you use theirs or if the management is good and not lazy, they'll assign one to you as soon as you get there.
They'll put you on a large lane first to see how fast you are. We've had new hires who know how to check after training, but they're so slow that it ****s with queue vision and he usually ends up back on an express, where that backs up too. But don't expect to be fast, especially if you have no retail experience. It comes with time. If you mess up or don't know what the register is doing/flashing at you, just tell the customer you need to get a manager or co-worker, you're new, and there's some kind of message you don't know how to solve yet. Most people will be nice with you and even say "well you're doing a great job!" or "it's ok, take your time". I've never had someone be extremely rude to me as a new cashier because of being slow/not knowing things.
One last thought: always always always make sure that when you do WIC vouchers, they get the right products. It is illegal to put Vitamin D milk on a voucher that lists it can only be used for 2%, 1%, etc. It's illegal to put anything on the register that isn't on their voucher. If they get the wrong product, call for a MANAGER. Some co-workers will tell you it's okay, to just let them have it, it is NOT ok. Any good manager would have your back on this issue too, even if the customer gets mad and leaves. If you don't know how to do WIC, call a co-worker over. It's a little confusing but with repetition it becomes easy.

I think you mean whole milk or skim milk vs. 1 or 2 %. They all have Vitamin D in them.
Definately go to the customer service desk and tell them your new and you need a supervisor. Best way to go. Also, don't be shy with the fact that your new. Tell people and they will help you and you can make friends. Its's way better to tell people your new and look like you don't know what your doing than for people to assume it because it's obvious you don't know what your doing. It's less embarrassing.
