Can't get a post-Kroger job
Permalink

I put in my two week notice over a month ago, and I've been job searching ever since. I must've put out over 30 applications, with no callbacks at all. What kind of jobs should I be applying for as a minor with 10 months of kroger experience?

I think as a minor, you might only ever be able to get into most retail gigs. As I think they are the only one seems to understand working X amount of hours at a time. But if not something in that industry, how about being a pizza delivery driver maybe?

Or any chance of talking to your guidance counselor and see if they have any suggestions? As I keep thinking and want to say something about potential internships. But I know in my own experience, even AFTER I graduated from college, I had a hell of a time locking one of those down myself. And even while IN school, some of the best internships were out of state, and I wasn't able to do those(health issues with my mom and not much help from most other fam members), and the ones I got stuck with that were local, weren't the best and didn't learn anything applying to my major, but at least gave me the credit hours I needed.

By chance you have any family connections or friends with family members that could vouch for you somewhere that is open to employing minors, even if on a part-time basis?

Firstly you made a major mistake. You put in a two-weeks notice without actually having another job. Now, if nothing works out and you have to stay at Kroger, now they know you want to quit and you are going to receive the short-end of the stick for the rest of your tenure and probably be treated like garbage and they will consider you a dumb-azz kid (which frankly i don't blame them). Also, only 10 months experience is going to reflect poorly on you. Work experience only works in a persons favor when you have accumulated a lot or at least a very decent amount. Your next employer will consider the fact that in ten months you will leave them also as soon as something else comes along. Switching jobs too much actually counts against you and will make you look bad because your not staying anywhere for very long. My advise is stay where your at and build the work experience. It will be better for you in the long run. The dollar more you may get somewhere else is only good in the short term, staying where your at is better in the long term. When you finally find the right job you will have an edge on others because you will seem like someone who will stay. Kroger ain't perfect but you may want to build up experience while your young.
