It really depends on how many people are working in the department. if they're good workers, and if everyone gets along. They're all just basically stocking positions. The order comes in and you put it on the shelf. There's no skill involved unlike the bakery department where we actually make stuff.
If it was me i would probably pick drug gm but that's based on me having no experience in any of those departments. But how can you just be a dept head without ever working that department -_-

Which, I still find kind of hilarious. Cause when I put in for bakery, I did it on a whim as other jobs I have actual skill in, just weren't panning out. So I just decided to apply with them in the bakery. Expecting a not qualified sort of answer. But nope, as the old store was closing and we got a new market place, they were taking everybody and anybody. And heck with my other part time job being(at the time) a substitute secretary for the local school system. And at most I got, since you work around kids you can't be all that bad. Can you work evenings? Yes? Perfect. You are hired. And to this day I still have yet to make my own cupcakes or anything of that nature, that was my mom's domain. And she had no patience for teaching anything. She knew what she was doing and wanted things her way. So instead of showing me growing up. She be like, already did it and enjoy. So truly, it still amazes me that they hired me in the bakery. And yet, I feel more comfortable over there than in Deli. As they have things so precise with weighing stuff out, date dotting, and doing their markdowns a particular way. That it kinds of stresses me out to open over there. Although I don't mind slicing the meat, as long as the customer is not looking for some funky amount or something, I can't determine.
Don't do dug/gm it is hell being a dept head they don't give you any hours I get 80 hours a week to run half of the store, 40 of which are me. They are constantly burying you in plus outs that you can't sell fast enough and you just aren't given the hours to get the work done it's awful. I worked meat dept before doing this, wish I would have stayed in meat until there was an opening for dept head.

If you happen to be at a Marketplace store then Drug GM gets plenty of hours for the dept. but at a smaller store it's a lot worse and the workload is bad and you are right about not getting enough hours. Marketplace stores are MUCH better if your lucky to work at one plus (in most divisions anyway) you have two dept heads and two backups.

Yeah no, hours are still tight at Marketplaces and you're moving a lot more product so even if you have more ppl it just offsets.
Dairy was a lot easier IMO but I wasn't the manager. As far as meat, well I see half the department just walking around a lot of the time. Probably why in huddles they're always getting yelled at about bunkers and other ****.
