What department is better?

I am partial to overnight Grocery because that is where I started and am not a Department Manager.  I got keys to the kingdom and an email account!  That is where 45% of the sales and action is.

Meat looks boring. I would fall asleep.

Produce looks time consuming.  A lot of time appears to be culling out grungy product.  I would go completely insane.

The Department Manager, the Store Manager and your interests determine which is the better job.  Kroger is just a job.

Meat or overnight grocery.

Produce is time consuming like the other guy said and if your produce crew isn't GREAT, you will not learn much and you will be working in a terrible department. A good crew is what makes produce a good department, otherwise, you're going to be bored and never learn anything because there is no one to teach you. Most produce heads have a ego problem when most aren't really good at all. So check into your produce department and look at quality of everything before you decide to transfer. If everything looks good and fresh, ok, but if there is clear negligence, go to meat or grocery as they tend to be better staffed as well.

Grocery. Produce can be terrible. It's disorganized, messy, and the containers are realllllly heavy. We cull all day. Miss one thing and the freshness score sinks. We are supposed to clean tables and cases constantly, but there is no time. Compost is gross. Rotation is really important in produce and it is hard to keep up. Our produce dept is near the registers so the FES sees us and constantly asks us to ring. Because of the shelf life of products being so short and space being limited we are often out of at least 2-3 items. Customers get mad. You will hear about how X fruit looks bad, etc. You will be "making it right" all day subbing organic for regular. I'd assume meat has similar problems. Grocery eould be difficult but not so tedious and disgusting.
