First Day at Kroger Tomorrow

Hello, I wanted to know what I will be doing on my first day at Krogers tomorrow and where should I report to or go to after I clock in. I'll be in clicklist. I'm really nervous.

You should be. Kroger is hell on earth, you'd be better off working the drive thru at McDonalds with a fraction of the stress than that sh*t for the same money. The HR lady didn't tell you where to go or what you will do? What kind of Kroger is that lmao, sounds more disorganized than mine.

On my first paid day i watched videos for a couple hours that had useless trivial information about the company. The day before that was unpaid drug test and filling out forms, went home after like an hour after the manager walked the store with me. The second day was lessons and quizzes which were a bit useful but not really. I then was made to bag groceries and greet even though i wasn't on the front end. You get this stupid little book where you have to write sh*t in which the department manager is supposed to teach you, but mine told me he didn't have time for that and I have since lost it. It's easy the first few days, the real sh*t comes once they throw you on the floor after all the orientation bullsh*t. We don't have clicklist at my store yet, but from what I read you take out groceries from online orders to a customers car and you're outside more than courtesy clerks yet they don't let you wear shorts, good luck with that lol. everything depends on if your department manager is a d*ck or not. Also given the fact everyone, including me, is always super busy and loaded up with more stuff to do than time in your shift, you never have time to breath or find out anything, especially teach a noob. Usually they will stick someone else in the department with you who will sloppily tell you what to do as your work throughout the day, after a week or two you should catch on. But seriously Kroger sucks unless you have a fat cat wage mandated in a union contract. I have a nice second shift thing where i pretty much work alone so it's alright, but it's more responsibility than what minimum wage should be. There's better stuff out there for the money they spit out, even the store managers don't make much I heard.

I recently started working at Kroger as a cashier. There was no orientation. Yes I had to do those WBL things on the computer. The HR lady was always evasive with my questions. After the 5th day, i never saw her again. First day on the floor, I was put with a cashier who pretty much didn't care, they just told me "here this is a register, now bag this ****."

There is no training, basically. You literally have to ask any and every person you see how this works. And if you're lucky, they might tell you. At least that's how it is for me. Two months later, I'm still learning new things everyday.

I can say that there is no training, because a few years ago, I used to be a cashier at a totally different grocery chain across the country. And the training I got there was far far better than this.

Yep, I think this is how Kroger's "training" works. I did the computer stuff as well. And pretty much after that it was like go to your department and people just start telling you what to do. Some will show you a few things. But since I'm in the bakery dept. all I kept hearing was "all this bread and rolls, etc. can all fit out on the floor" And I didn't see how that was possible as I've never stocked anything before(this is my first retail gig ever) and when I was doing it, I felt like I was just making things look uber junky. But never really heard if it was right or not, unless someone actually took a moment to see how I was doing things.

Heck, I wasn't even on the same days as my trainer to even really learn much from her save for a few times she be like what questions do you have. Cause one of the managers asked how my training was going. And I was just honest and told him that it wasn't going. As I hardly had any time with my trainer to learn much of anything. And I guess that was the only time she stepped up a bit. But more than anything I would have appreciated some time learning how to properly write on the cakes. I have no skill in that at all. And just lucky that when I do write, it comes out legible enough for the person to be able to read the message, lol.

But yea, best thing to do is just ask a bunch of questions and watch things very carefully. That's the best advice I can give.

I don't know what department you got hired for, but you need to be nervous. The one that was to train me didn't train me and I never worked with them. Although 4 people have told me what needs and to be done, I practically trained myself. Lots of Luck!
