do other kroger stores scheduling enough baggers in the daytime? Is it corporate or management or combination of not scheduling enough baggers? My store used to have enough daytime baggers but lately no bagger helper. I know school is back in session but we still had enough baggers. My store is a marketplace and is always busy. Cashiers and customers are doing all the bagging now. Pretty soon it would not surprised me if cashiers will have to do carts also.
Both at a corporate level and store management level, the goal is to minimize expenses while maximizing profits. Baggers, like any other position, costs money, and Kroger is only going to schedule what's deemed necessary to satisfy the "bare minimum".
Then there's the issue of Kroger paying among the lowest wages not only in the industry but throughout the country as a whole and that, combined with the pitiful amount of hours part timers typically get, most adults aren't going to take a bagging position because it doesn't satisfy their financial needs, so even if Kroger wanted to hire more baggers, there may not even be enough people applying for the position. Sure, teenagers may be okay with it, but like you said, school is back in session now, so a huge chunk of Kroger's workforce just became unavailable for mornings and afternoons during the weekday.
Customers simply better get used to bagging their own groceries more and more because Kroger is just too cheap to consistently provide that service anymore.
I have no idea why a marketplace store would have problems. Now they haven't been as successful as Kroger wishes so I'm sure hours were cut but still, it's a marketplace. Could easily be school being back in though.
In regular stores, it's about hours. You don't get that many hours for bagging/utility during the day.
Marketplaces store are seen as just another Kroger store, there is nothing special about them other then size. He.....its your store is HUGE?....woundn't you think you would get more hours because of "walking time, larger parking lot, 2 entrances, #X Checkouts" NOPE........ 2 registers is all you need!
Bring value and items customer want.........why does Non-Foods/Drug Gm spend more time trying to push candy ? How about pushing quality Non-Foods products that are not cheap !! We sell Toilet Seat, which are wood and the most heaviest things possible! Our Toy section is too high priced and never really on "Sale", why do we change prices on checklane candy ever 2 weeks? If its impulse.....sent a Good price and leave it alone! 15 registers changing 30 tags weekly changed! OMG I just saved the company $$$
Kroger penny pinches.It doesn't help that Kroger offers ten cents above minimum wage.Most baggers dislike the job due to having too many job duties and having to put up with the b.s. of society.Not to mention with my experience society treats baggers like they're garbage and under educated individuals that grew up in a struggling house hold.I got very little respect as a bagger.Got treated like I was the scum of the mud puddle.Not sure why I stayed as one so long.I transferred away from a 1 million dollar daily income store and the store refused to schedule baggers.I was starting to receive back injury symptoms due to this.
