Performing "Code date" management - it has 'bugs" in this program - anyone else notice this?

I am so sick of doing the Code Dates, and as I use the RF scanner, I notice how there seems to be so many things wrong with the system. "Bugs" for lack of a better term. For instance, when coming  up to the Organic Marjoram (the little rectangular herb packets, usually priced around 1.99) when I try to mark it down, it goes through a different screen sequence than the others, definitely something wrong with the way that item was "programmed". I am in produce, by the way.

If we are out of an item, so I can't mark them down, or change the oldest date, so I try to go to the next screen (hitting 5) and NONE of the 3 options apply. It is as if the program has been tweaked by someone who knows nothing about what we really need to do, how to do it, to perform our jobs in the produce dept.

Every day, a large number of items that are in need of markdown (because the sell-by day is fast approaching) are not "in the system" and don't "show up" so we have to re-trace our steps and go over everything, esp the salad packets, fresh kitchen, mushrooms, Taylor  fresh green beans/pea pods/broccoli/cauliflower, etc. , making sure that all items have been properly marked down with the stickers.

Does anyone here, who works in a produce dept,  have some background understanding of why this stuff happens every day? Any advice or feedback?

I've been aware of these problems for a couple of years now. There's nothing WE can do about it besides maneuver around those minor bugs.

The RF unit Kroger uses is also ancient (surprised?). Go into Target and see what they have.

All Kroger's programs are ancient, its all build on 1980's -early 90's platforms. There's a reason IBM got out of the POS business, I have been with the company 15+ years and are still using literally the same stuff (Yes some equipment is newer and a little faster, but ACE-POS is basically the same. How much do you think it would cost to actually purchase a new FULL program and expand to all stores? 1 Billion?

Hey now... you gotta give Kroger some credit... at least the company isn't still running its programs/tech off of Windows 3.1, you know... like a certain French airport: https://news.vice.com/article/windows-31-is-still-alive-and-it-just-killed-a-french-airport

But yeah, you would think Kroger would want to simplify and streamline things so that employees could be more efficient at their jobs, but it always seems like the company does the complete opposite. Then, management acts all baffled when stuff doesn't get done in a timely fashion.

I still maintain the Baymax was built in 1999. It doesn't read or scan tags, even the clear, non-wrinkled ones. Or the way you have to scan the totes changes depending on print job. Super frustrating. We had to restart a register once and it reminded me of a 2005 BIOS setup. And I'm not particularly computer literate, but it reminded me of when my old Windows laptop wouldn't reboot to the home screen.
