Overall what is a better department to work in?

They are about equal in difficulty................... some things to consider:

1) You will have to lift and move gobs of heavy boxes.

2) you will need to become efficient with the RF scanner, learning various functions, including, but not limited to, the 'basics' such a markdowns.

3) You will like meats better if you are more comfortable (less squeamish) with lots of raw red meat and blood around.

4) it depends also (ALOT) on exactly who your dept supervisor/lead is, how well you get along with them, how good they are at their jobs.

5) And how the schedule is done........if you work with slackers, prepare for unhappiness and depression. If you work with GOOD co-workers , either dept will go a lot better.

6) You will have to do a lot of cleaning. Including Closing shift cleaning tasks in the meat dept, and various cleaning routines in Produce.  If you go to Produce, hope and pray they won't put you on the early morning "Green Rack' cleaning!

7) You will need to be good about rotating....stocking the newest product behind the old. Which in some cases is a PAIN, but it is important.

Your question has been asked gobs of times over the years.......search for more discussions/opinions by using typing keywords into the "SEARCH" box in the upper right of the home page.

well, Kroger is a grocery store (mostly food) so I guess you mean working in Drug/GM? Or working with products that are not perishable.

Drug gm is the easiest dept. it has lots of items tho so if you're not comfortable with makeup and feminine products maybe it's not for you. There's not a lot of hours to get a lot done in.

front end is the face of h*ll, stay away.

Meat/seafood seems harder than produce.  Produce is less messy and sometimes hard to keep good help but it's quiet and straight forward not a lot of customer time.  Meat seems to burn through help fast.
