It is technically against policy to have relationships with your superiors or subordinates. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but it is indeed something you can be fired for. Most likely if they were going to actually take action it would be ask you to transfer to either a different department or different store.
Yea, I would think that they would have to be in separate depts. As I know at my store there are two ladies that are dating and the one that became a lead had to be switched over to another department. But they are like right across the way from each other still. So it's not much of a hardship for them to "see" each other so to speak.
One of our best courtesy clerks got moved out of the front end earlier than he anticipated (he was still 17 at the time) because his brother got promoted to a floor supervisor. On the flipside to that situation... said brother is dating one of the cashiers and has had times of slacking off to flirt with her when he should be keeping an eye on the floor -_-
Guess it is true about the relative thing as well. As we got a new employee the other day and he is related to a older lady that works in the chicken shop(his mom). Albeit one of our deli back up managers already know about it. And she isn't holding it against him. I think she also might have told him to just keep it on the DL about that. As we need far more help in the deli at the moment with some of the other employees putting in their notices. And I don't thinks he wants any sort of bias affecting a potentially good worker solely cause he has a relative in the same department.

Relatives can work in the same department as long as one of them isn't a supervisor over the other. Personally though I don't think I could work in the same department or even the same store for that matter as my mom.
Take no concern. No rules against this. The only time they might is if they marry and work in the same department. At my prior store we had about four family members working in the same store.Several of them ended up in positions of management while the other family member was on duty.Started becoming favorites.Started becoming an issue.Legally family members can not even work in the same store...

That's interesting to know. As one lady I work with, I believe her daughter and son were working at Kroger and then she came along after a while. But she is in Deli. The son is a bagger and the daughter is working Starbucks.
But yea, I can see how playing favorites would be an issue like in your example. I'm surprised they even let all 3 of the fam members get into management at the same place. I've been told plenty of times that if I were to move up the ladder I'd have to change stores and I don't even work with anybody I'm related to.

I totally agree. Even though it's been 2 years since my mom passed. And we had our own kind of rapport. Other times we butt heads left and right cause she was always a very much "My way or the highway" kind of person in so many things. Heck for that matter, I don't think I could work with ANY of my fam either to be honest. I mean I'm the youngest grand kid and my fam is so stuck in seeing me as being the youngest in that regard. That I doubt they would ever really listen to me if I said how to do something better. Soooo don't have time for none of that.
At Kroger is a head of a department allowed to date a backup of the same department? I heard you can be fired for it.
I once had a couple manager from another store come to mine to help out for a short while. Asked for my number, wanted to date me. He told me to keep it a secret. Needless to say that went absolutely nowhere. So I do think it is frowned upon.

Screwed up the reply. This is what the other post was in reference to
So if you have a family member that is higher up than you in your department, you would have to transfer? If that's the case, then at 687, there are 2 sisters who essentially run front end. Both are supervisors. At one point, there where all 3 sisters working in the same department at different levels. One was a cashier, one a courtesy clerk, and one a supervisor. Wouldn't that be a violation?
I would never risk to date a colleague. You know in other firms they always start dating you, but when you break up with her she claims sexual harassment. Why would you need that? Better to go url checking and finding someone for dating from the outside. At least there will be no conflict of interest, right?

You can't be fired for it but you can be requested to move to another store or department so long as you're not managing them. It's always been a company policy. Because it leads to favoritism.
If you are lonely for a long time, you should not be very upset about this. Just start talking to new people much more often and more often. Especially now it is easy and convenient to do this with the help of the Internet, social networks, and dating sites. Those who often use these sites and are very satisfied because there you can always find a partner who will be the best fit. So I think it's worth it.

As long as he/she is not your supervisor/subordinate then its NOT Kroger's busniness. Just dont say anything. They make, for try and you say something to prevent favoritism. But Kroger DOES show favoritism EVEN IF there is no romantic relationships.
Date a higher up take advantage of it. try to find a fat one in charge. If you can appease that blubbery butt you can get away with murder. Kroger is a throw away job anyway so take advantage of getting special favors and ****
We had bullying in our store. The one who got bullied stood up for himself and it nearly escalated into a physical confrontation. Kroger did absolutely nothing.
But they loose their damn mind if a higher up dates a subordinate. Doesnt make sense.
She got privileges from dating department manager. She bullies everyone.
Someone should just stand up to her. If everyone backs down, shes going to get use to it. If someone or everyone just starts standing up to her I can most likely agree she will.stop when she realizes no one will.put up with her bs. She wouldnt like me too much or my co-workers because we dont abide by bullying.

Correct. It's called favoritism rules. While married couples can work at the same store and vise versa with dating; it creates favoritism. You have a few options: be terminated, or be requested to transfer to another store or request to change departments. If you do have married couples in the store or family members; they can not work in the same department for fear of favoritism. If they are allowed to do so one can not be the lead.
