I use self checkout almost exclusively. Just a simple respect to my coworkers. Why have someone else do what I can do myself? But when I do use a regular checkout, I'm treated nicely, as a customer would. But then again, I pick a lane/cashier carefully, haha.
Unless you're doing actual grocery shopping other than a few items, just use self-checkout. It's usually faster and doesn't bother the 1+1 rating. I've actually had store managers tell employees they can't got into a lane at all because of the 1+1 rating.
The few times I have come in on my off day to shop though... if the cashier recognizes me they usually just have a little conversation with me. I don't get the survey printed on my receipt so they don't bother mentioning it I guess.
i get off at 6-7:30am so uscan is usually the only thing open. i really don't like one of the attendants in the morning because she's quite rude, so i try to only buy things when the nice ones are there. sometimes if i get a big cart full, i'll use a checkout lane. i always bag for them (can't shake those courtesy clerk roots) and they usually thank me.
I'm always treated pretty friendly. I mean I give them the same respect and good humor I would expect to get in return. And yes I do give them eye contact and they return it as well.
And honestly I like going through the line, just so Ic an get a different perspective on peeps I work with that DON'T work in my department.
Do they say "hi" and "thank you" to you? Do they treat you like any other customer? Do they give you eye contact and acknowledge your existence?
I've noticed at my store, all the managers never go to a cashier's lane, they always use the self checkout. I wonder why.
I don't like any of the cashiers in my store so I usually go to other departments to check out. Treatment usually depends on the person, and your relationship with them, if it's good or not. When I go to other stores, I use self checkout, but I've noticed that employees tend to not be polite once they know I'm a Kroger employee. I have experienced this with a pharmacy at a different store than the one I work at.
O go to uscans, unless i have a bunch of items. Our registers are usually very busy with customers. I want to get my stuff and go, whether I'm on break o off work. I don't want the long wait.
I do a mix. If I have a lot or two orders, I'll go to a cashier line because I don't want to hold up the customer efficiency of self checkout. If I have a very few items, I'll just self checkout. I usually don't need bag for break items or only have about 10 items or less so I just throw them all in together. But my store's employees are pretty nice and always say hello. Whether I'm on the clock or not. Probably because I pitch in whenever possible to make their days easier if my department's slow. Like today I was in the meat department getting some of those shrimp skewers to make for dinner. I didn't call the meat lead over. Just let him do what he needed to do and waited. Same attitude with cashiers. If there's no bagger available, I'll do it without question. Most of the time baggers like to do it though because we discuss the store.
