This girl got pissed at me cause I told her she didn't pay

She swiped her card on the pinpad, thinks she's paid. Comes to me saying that she didn't get a receipt. I'm like, no maam, you didn't pay. I tell her that she has to press the "card" button on the self checkout's screen to finish paying. I try to explain to her the pinpad is waiting for her response from the other screen.

She gives me this look and responds with this snide remark, "so... like I said, I already paid." Then rolls her eyes and walks off after the receipt prints out. Wow, just wow.

This is the last time I will try to explain things to customers.

On a side note, this happens all the time at the Uscan. Most customers think they just swipe their card and that's it, they've paid. Then they walk out with their stuff. The fact that they almost never expect a receipt adds to that line of thinking. If I was a manager, that would really piss me off. But since this isn't my money walking out the door, I just sit there with amazement.

Some of them even think that they'll be charged twice because I tell them their card didn't actually go through because they failed to press the right combination of buttons.

I wish I could double charge customers. I'd charge some of them a dozen times if I could.

Honestly, though, our SCO is poorly designed.  If a customer slides their card, it should automatically run their card.  Just like Wal-Mart and most other SCO's.

Sometimes I like to mimic the machines at them in the most prerecorded voice I can manage.

Most times, it just pisses me off, so I just hit the the card button for them before they're done bitching.  Makes them feel stupid.  I like to use a pen so I don't have to touch that gross crusty screen.

I know there was talk about ONLY Credit Card/Debit Card SCO and Registers........

I do not think it went anywhere, since we have too many customers that do not read......and too many customers with multiple payments types for 1 translation!

We use to have on our pinpads, is 'your total is xxx is this ok?' Before they changed it.

This one guy came in and left before he could approve the amount. He was adamant that he paid. No power in earth would tell him otherwise. In short, he left. So our checker rolled her eyes and clicked 'Yes on the pinpad. On his next statement it will show the amount paid that he "forgot to pay.

I think I've figured out what's going on. They must have updated the software on the pinpads. Because a few days ago it wasn't like this. Before, when a customer swiped their card, the pinpad would say "please continue checking out" or some phrase like that, I can't remember exactly, and there would be a button underneath the text to cancel. Now that screen has been replaced with one that just says "Processing, please wait." And it just stays in limbo till someone presses the "Card" button on the selfcheckout's main screen.

Wow, what genius at Verifone/Toshiba thought this would improve things? I've been pressing "Card" for customers all day long today. They were just standing there wondering why it's taking so long to process their credit cards. Kinda funny actually. I developed a routine for this, I just go up to them when they ask me why it's still processing, I pretend to be dumbfounded as well, then I tap the screen and look at the pinpad and say "Oh, I think ya need to press this." Then they go "Oh, right, duh. Thanks man!"

Normally I would select card, put my card in, enter pin & wait for transaction to complete.  This morning I did that but it stayed on processing, please wait till I hit card again, then my transaction went thru.

I miss our older Verifone pinpads without chip, where they would operate semi independently of the register / robot. You could swipe your card (or use Samsung Pay as it worked on our old ones too because of Virtual Swipe) and process your card while the order is ongoing / completed. So once you hit Debit / Credit Card on self check or EFT on the register, the register / robot automatically proceeds and completes the transaction. I don't like our whole "is this amount ok" bs, why wouldn't it be ok! Just process the damn card.
