And how often do they acknowledge you? 

I've been practicing saying "have a nice day" to customers as they go outside and greeting people when I'm walking through the aisles. But I don't like that empty feeling I get when I'm not acknowledged. But on the other hand, I can kind of see why, I mean it feels kinda superficial for some stranger to just tell you "have a nice day."

But I also don't want to piss off my CSM cause they're going to expect me to do so from now on. You know, I'm not a social person. My personality does not grab people's attention. Almost makes me fear I chose the wrong job. So I don't know how they do it, especially when they're cashiering. They manage to get every single customer to respond to them and start a conversation.

With me, only about 40% to 50% of customers do so. My CSM makes me feel like I should be doing that with 100% of the customers.

Greet customers 100% if eye contact is made (a simple hello is fine.) Customers appearing lost or searching (hello, are you finding everything all right?) When you know your customer is satisfied or is departing, 100% appreciate and goodbyes (thank you or thank you for shopping with us, have a great day.) Smiles are good too. This is pretty standard stuff managers want done. Gives a feel-good atmosphere among customers and increases customer retention. The extra mile is suggestive selling. Essentially attempting to generate higher sales by suggesting other products customers may be interested in (samples is awesome for this, if you ever work in a department) This all becomes easier and almost reactionary after a lot of experience and time.

Thanks. I'll try to limit it to eye contact only. It seems to be easier that way and less fake. As pretty much everyone I make eye contact with responds.

I don't even really get a chance to say have a nice day. It's like as soon as you are done with helping someone they are like "yeah, have a good one as well" and move on so quickly.

Even when I'm in bakery, I try and say "enjoy the rest of your day and your cake too(if they've ordered one). And some seem to appreciate that more. But I swear the pleasantries are cut off as they will say their little thing and race off. Hard to get a word in edgwise sometimes.

In a regular or expres lane, almost all of them. At SCO, as any as I feel like or can otherwise manage.

It doesn't matter how many customers actually acknowledge me. The store manager is somewhere between an ass hole and a monster, so I need to pass every shop that I can.
