So my truck was broken into while on the clock working my night shift and they stole stereo equipment. The cameras had been conveniently shut down right after arrival at work that night, so there is no footage of the burglary. Called the company's insurance and they said I'm responsible for my own vehicle and anything in it. My doors were locked and they damaged the lock to the point it doesn't work when they broke in.
Is this accurate? Should I talk to my union rep about this, maybe? I don't understand how I can be responsible for my vehicle when I'm on company time. I can't exactly just check on my vehicle every 15 minutes when I'm working.
The hell did they disable the cameras for? And I hope those thieves burn in hell. I can't imagine how pissed I'd be if that was my car. I feel for you man.
Your out of luck! The Store only has to have the perception of "A Safe Work Environment" to satisfy legal standards. Its like when someone comes in a steals, you cant control what your unaware of! If anything you might get the Union to question the Camera system being turned off, since the Camera are installed to protect the Store and their Employees!
