Unfriendly store manager

One of the four store managers, I think, dislikes my existence. I mean I don't know how else to put it. I've tried to say hello to him as I walk through the halls. When I've had to ask him necessary questions related to the job, he answers me with this look of disgust in his face. I can almost picture him wanting to say "get the **** away from me you scum."

I sometimes worry that if something minor were to happen, and he had his way, I'd probably get fired.

Now, the other store managers, in contrast, are friendly to me when I go up to them.

So, is this THE "Store manager" or one of the co-managers?

I wouldn't worry about him. It doesn't sound like he hates you but sees you as "little people/lowly underling" and views you as "in the way" or bugging him, if you ask a question.

Some Kroger management really looks down on the Front End, unfortunately.

Our store manager seems indifferent and impatient and as if you're bugging him. He's been with us for a year now and rgis is his first manager role. He seems preoccupied with moving up the corporate food chain, and cares about little else. Even our customers have commented on how disinterested and unfriendly he seems (even on sureys)

Yeah, he's a co-manager. He was transferred to the store about 3 months ago. Now the main store manager, he is always super friendly and responsive when he's not busy caught in a trance by other pressing issues.

Why does management look down on the front end? I'd like to know more on that. I mean isn't the front end very important?

I had a co-manager act that way. I confronted them privately about it, and this person denied it, or at least denied doing it intentionally.

Because the front end is the last impression a customer receives when they leave the store the front end can make or break the stores osat

There is a co-manager that kinda has it out for me. I don't think he understands how behind our bakery is and how hard I have to work as a closer. It was Saturday and I was by myself, and he was pointing out every hole in the tables. This is a busy store and I've been there about a month and a half. I don't understand why I'm by myself in the bakery, especially on a Saturday. This guy would bug me almost every hour, even after seeing me help customers. I kinda snapped at him and said that I haven't even taken a break, and this was when I was 6 hours into my shift. He didn't care and of course, he told on me to my store manager and my department head. Thankfully, my department head is pretty sympathetic and understands how busy it is. My store manager is friendly and tried to push that I have to keep the tables filled. He is kind of a "fake-friendly" so it's hard to read him, but he knows customer satisfaction has been up in the bakery since I got hired so I don't think he wants to be hard on me.

If the guy is a co-manager, I wouldn't pay much heed to him, especially if the other managers seem to like you.

Well, I'm not implying it's "all" of Kroger management, but in my experience there's certain ones that like to "talk at you and not 'to' you." Because the Front End is the least labor intensive job, doesn't require you to know CAO, or use the baler, and minors can work in the department, some of them have this air of "Any monkey can scan groceries real fast/get carts/bag."

Coincidently, these are the same co-managers who know dick about the registers and are always turning around to you asking for help, or for PLU codes every 5 seconds when they're surge-checking.

You mean to tell us you  have actual co-managers working as cashiers for a few minutes at a time???  At my store, I very very rarely see that..........they will bag though.  And isn't this something they are not supposed to do anyway, re union rules or regulations???? Doesn't the union ever do anything about it?

This does happen at the location I work at as a cashier.

The co-managers will bag groceries as well as cashier.

Same. In a rush situation, you gotta do what you gotta do, even if all available checkers n baggers are up front already (meaning over half the store)

Ours will also do it as well and will sometimes temporarily take over at SCO so the CSR / Uscan attendant can open a lane. Why? Because it is something that needs to be done. Would you rather move lines, or lose customers? Heck a few of our co managers once came out with me n another UC on lot and hauled carts. Why? Because it needed to be done. There is a need, you fill that need, regardless of what you have to do.

At my store I've seen all four co-managers get on register and bag on several occasions. On labor day all four of them were on registers at the same time! I have yet to see the store manager get on register, though.

Oh yeah, I've seen our co-managers haul carts too. Seen another with a hairnet on and apron working in the freezer or bakery (can't say which exactly). And I see them working the service desk all the time.
