I say give it some time, as they will cut you back down. They always do, you may get really high hours right now and then it will drop way down. I say take the extra pay while you can.
Are there vacations? Is the department short people? I have given my part timers 40 hours for a stretch when one or both of those occurs. Eventually the department is fully staffed (at least according to ELMS), and part timers get cut way down, sometimes as low as 12 hours.
If your availability allows for you to be schedule for 40 hours, I don't see the problem. If you don't want to work that many hours change your availability. Just remember when there comes a time when you might need those extra hours, for whatever reason, they will not be there for you. I have a few people that work for me in drug/gm like this. They Always complain that they don't get enough hours, then turn around and want to leave early when you schedule them more.
