Hello, it has come to my attention lately that some stores (such as large home improvement stores) have been more and more lenient lately on allowing their customers to come in and shop with their dogs on leashes.
And, just within the last month or two, I have seen several customers come into the Kroger where I work, and have a dog with them. Either on a leash, or sitting with them in one of hose motorized carts ("bumper cars") that have to be recharged.
Of course I understand about the deal with 'service animals' helping those that are blind, but what about just ordinary pet dogs??
Is there a new policy at Kroger that we are not aware of? I have been meaning to ask a manager about this, but haven't yet. A conversation at a family get-together sparked my interest, and am posting this for feedback.......... anyone know anything about it??
I have seen customers bring their dogs into my stores too. Not including service dogs, obviously. Nobody ever says anything so I guess it's okay. But I think the actual policy is no animals allowed inside unless they're service animals. But can you imagine one of these spineless managers going up to a customer and telling them to take their nasty mutt outside and away from fresh food?
It is not allowed and the store could get in trouble if caught by the health dept. They try it here too. Tell the manager on duty if you have reason to believe it is not a service animal.
I thought the policy pertained strictly to service animals being allowed. As I think there was woman that used to come in all the time with her chihuahua. And then not sure if someone spoke to her about it or not. But he went from not having a service anything on him, to wearing a vest and then a over grown badge thingie that said he was a service animal. I still don't buy it. But haven't really seen that lady since either.
And I know there used to be a lady that would bring in her miniature poodle in a front carrier she would wear across her chest. But haven't seen her either in a while. So I guess somebody stepped up and said something to them about it.
I remember there was a lady who used to bring in her dog on a leash and walk him around the store, she claimed he was a service animal but he wasn't trained at all. she would feed him scraps of stuff off the salad bar, and the dog would pee or poop on the floor and she wouldn't clean it up. finally, they said something to her about it.
Being a dog owner and a dog lover, I myself dont care as long as the dog is under reasonable control. I would much rather see dogs in the store than kids, thats for sure, kids are annoying AF.
Our store allows service animals only. However, only store management can verify if it's a service animal and all they can do is ask if it is such. They can't ask for any verification or what it's a service animal for. So essentially, any dog can come in. It's frustrating.
I have no problem if the animal is needed because you have a legitimate physical disability or ailment. However, saying you need an animal with you at all times because you have anxiety or something like that is a load of bull.
Its actually not a load of bull. Their are people who have panic disorders and struggle with agoraphobia which is getting panic/anxiety attacks whenever you leave a safe space. For me I get panic/anxiety attacks if I go outside my house by myself. My service dog helps me feel comfortable going out on my own and be more independent. Its not just physical disabilities that can be debilitating.
We have non-service dogs in our store ALL the time. It doesnt bother me anymore. The dogs are usually well behaved (except for the occasional puppy that decides the whole store is and the people within are his new friends or the chihuahua that will yap because no one is focusing on him).
Although we did have one woman that brought her dog in the store and when the dog crapped and pissed everywhere we told her to clean it up or get out. Next thing we knew, we saw her cart roll down the aisle and slam into a display. Cursing she grabs her dog and. Leaves vowing to call corporate  yeah. You do that.
I was in Kroger west Knoxville Tennessee. There was a large German Shepherd running around for a few seconds without any person being near them. I have PTSD from being tackled by a dog in my neighborhood. I had a broken arm and crushed vertebrae and have rods and pins in my back an arm. I asked the assistant manager what he could do and he was nice but he did not know the rules and did not do anything
I used to take my dogs a small Poodle and a Yorkie inside Kroger. I would put them in the shopping cart and walk around and shop. It was hot outside and I was not gonna leave them in the car.

Thank god youre a kind and compassionate dog owner. I feel so sad for pets left in a car with the window barely opened.

Why can't you leave them at home?
Because I wanted them to go with me? It's been too long either I took them to be groomed or I just took them because I wanted to. It does not matter I worked their at the time and no one said anything.

Pets enjoy the pet section more then you know
With my Yorkie I made the mistake of buying cheap Kroger dog food the wet kind. Not sure if that made him sick or not. He did live a long time but had some digestive issues and I want go into any more details.
True policy states service animals only with vests on them. Period. No exceptions. Kroger however will never enforce it. Let the dog bite you, sue and make them enforce it. Sorry but it might need to be that extreme before they enforce it.
This isn't customer service. You're better off going to kroger.com and submitting a customer complaint. This complaint will go no further than the employees that check kroger sucks thread. kroger does not own this. Or they would of taken it down a long time ago.

We need to show Kroger all the horrible post here by lazy self entitled AND loathing smelly ass associate.
Go to ADA.gov. Type in service animal under the search bar. That will you the dog owners their rights and responsibilites of a service dog under the american disabilities act.
Your a load of bull because there are actually dogs made for people with anxiety and depression just cuz its a mental condition does not mean its a condition physical or not its still real get your head out your @$$
I work in produce and seen a dog owner with her dog in the shopping cart pass by me. I looked but went back to work. Chile kroger need to get a law out ASAP because the min someone get bite they gne sue kroger and the owner.

I second this. Dont worry about what other people are doing. You dont know their situation what so ever. So stfu and stock the shelves. If you actually did your jobs and kept your fat ass nose outta peoples business you probably get paid more.
I'm definitely not a dog person. Especially the little dogs - chihuahuas and such.
German Shepherds, Malinois, Border Collie, Golden Retriever, Labs, etc. are cool, but i'd never have a dog.
Anyhow, Once, this lady had two puppies on leashes, just walking through the store. And all the attention was causing crowds to form on the aisle.
One guy has a service animal, with a vest, and I assume it's supposed to be legit. He's a military vet, but the damn dog barks at times. I would think they are better trained than that.
Once, the store manager told me to let him know if I saw anyone with one of those small dogs in their shopping cart, that it's not allowed. But then other managers argued with me. Probably just their own personal preference, that really has nothing to do with Kroger's actual rules.
Yeah, I really despise the chihuahuas in motorized carts, buggies, and bags/purses.

Are you normally racists to pets?
Doesnt sound like racism. May be he/she had a bad experience with the dogs. Those dogs can be nippy and yappy and sometimes have 'Big Dog Syndrome' they act like big dogs but cannot back it up.
Maybe the poster was bitten as a child by the chihuahua....
Me I'm not a fan of dogs, but I would never abuse one or not pet one if it was asking for pets.

You cry 'cause i'm not a dog person? Get over it. Dogs stink, and bark, and definitely should not be in a human's house. People defend all kinds of bad decisions. Why should this one be any different.

Works both ways. If anything humans are more dirty than dogs. MYbe you shouldnt be in a house either?
Some people were spreading rumors that there was a lawsuit somewhere that made it a good idea to let people bring pets in. I don't buy it or anything else. Company is always testing to see what it can get away with. kroger khaos. If your dog bites people a lot it can be barred from the store. Thank goodness for civil courts.

Exactly. And if some dog in a store bit my child unprovoked, I'm going to kick that dog into the next state. And if the owners are foolish enough to confront me on it, then theyll join their dog.
I don't care if someone brings their dog into the store...but the dog MUST be WELL BEHAVED. barking I could care less about...but the first snarl and show of teeth, you better teach that dog some manners for it's own safety.
