I've done that a few times. I usually wait till the zero minute of the next hour to clock out.
There's usually a seven minute grace period either way. That means if you clock in anywhere between 4:53 and 5:07, it will register your time as 5:00. I always take my last break the last fifteen minutes of my shift. It's either that or not take it at all. So if I get off at 2:00, I'll punch out for break at 1:45, punch in from break at 1:52, and punch out for the day at 1:53.
Since that last fifteen minutes is my break time, I'm not stealing any time from Kroger. In reality they're getting more work out of me than if I were to take a break in the middle of my shift since I would have to take time out to go to the breakroom where the time clock is located, take my fifteen minute break, punch back in, and then walk back to my department. Some people do abuse the seven minute rule though. A co-worker of mine likes to leave the department a full half hour early. He'll take a 22 minute break and not get penalized since it's only seven minutes over and then he'll wait a minute and punch out to go home seven minutes before his shift is over. He'll do this even after taking both a break in the morning and and a half hour (more like 45 minutes) lunch. He'll punch the clock correctly but then he'll take several minutes to actually get back to the department and back to work

True but they can look in Krono's and see the exact time you clocked in/out. If the manager want's to be a real ******* then they can possibly fire you after so long.

Out by us, our clocks under Roundys are restricted, so we cannot punch even a minute early without a manager override. Until the dot hits your time, the clock will laugh and say no. Punching out late is usually very unwise unless we get store director approval. I know for me, sometimes my managers are fine with a minute or two over as they all understand we all do it sometimes, but anything over 5 minutes after, I report to MOD with an explanation so they are aware and so I can say I told a member of management my reason why. And we only get a 5 minute grace between punching in for shift and break, so we are allowed 20 minutes max for break, but most people try not to abuse it, I certainly do not as the clock will start counting down against your shift worked during that 5 minute period. Anytime over 5 minutes for either start of shift or break will "red flag" in Kronos and management will pull you aside
Unless my supervisors tell me it is ok to leave early and it is pretty near the time, only then will I clock out early and that's usually within a 3 to 2 minute window, nothing more.

With all the technology I don't understand why we are not paid by the Minute. We get beat up about .15 hours of OT all the time, but with stores getting bigger and bigger 1-2 time clocks in the store are just not enough. Most evenings 9pm we have a 10 person line to clockout.

That's not right from an ethical standpoint. If they're going to cut it that close, they should deduct only the time you missed, not a full 15 minutes. Do they pay you a full 15 minutes overtime if you clock out more than 3 minutes late? They don't? Well, then they shouldn't be deducting a full 15 minute's pay.

Why are you clocking out for 15 minute beaks? Kroger doesn't pay for breaks where you are? Cuz in Texas we get paid 30 minute breaks. We don't have to worry about clocking in and out for that.

Yes, we get paid for our breaks, but we still have to punch in and out for them because if you go over 22 minutes, it becomes an unpaid lunch.
i was unaware you could take a 22 minute break? i've taken like 20 minute breaks just trying to get everything done i want to do, go to the bathroom then punch out, punch back in maybe do a couple of things, and ive only really been asked a couple times what took so long
