kroger says they are going to put the money back into the stores for the employees and implement new programs, such as a new role out is where they give a customer a scanner and they scan what they want without going through the checkstand.

they already have that at frys. you scan the items as you put them in the cart all you gotta do when you get upfront is pay and leave. once this catches on say good bye to more hours and jobs.

Exactly. That's the whole point of rolling out this technology to more and more stores. It's just like ClickList. The goal is ultimately to reduce the number of employees needed on any given day and basically "pocket" those hours that are no longer "needed".

Kroger is currently trying to adjust to the changing marketplace and that's why more focus is being placed on e-commerce and less on the"traditional" shopping experience. Selling off its convenience stores gives the company fresh money to reinvest in e-commerce and Scan Bag Go, as well as frees the company from a portion of its old business model that it's trying to move away from.

Fine with me. I work on the front end and Kroger cashiers are terrible. Not just at my store but at other Krogers too. That why I always use self checkout out, and even then, there are sco people who are starting to ruin that experience.

If you think about it, Kroger needed to make some news and also say there are reinventing their business. The Convenience Store Group as of this year was seen as a growth segment ("Small Format"- "Fresh Eat's"). The Convenience Store Group in reality is the only easily eliminated areas of Kroger's chain, with somewhat separate back end functions. The additional technology announcement was also fluff to Wall-Street, Edge Shelves are interesting, but over priced for the benefits. Scan Bag Go, if you ask any of the stores has very mixed responses, with theft being HUGE.
