How many DHs on here come home everyday stressed to the brim and very tired? Past 2 days I've come home and fell asleep for 14 hours straight! Then I had to go in today and while sitting out in my car, I was really contemplating if it was worth just driving away and never going back. Then I finally decide to walk through those doors, which I dread doing, and everything that I wanted to avoid, came back to me. It's such a mess. I never even know what day it is 98% of the time. Someone will ask me what day it is and I will have to ask them, then I'll have to check my phone very quickly. My mind is always on auto pilot, every day is the same, there is absolutely no difference. I go in, punch the clock, and the movie starts a rerun. I honestly don't know how long I'm going to be able to put up with it. I'm not the type to quit or step down, but something is going to have to give.
You certainly aren't alone. I did the "come home and pass out for the rest of the night" a few days ago.
I'm a Dairy lead and work by myself in the mornings every day. Only me and a closer, with sometimes an hour gap between shifts. So I'm usually finishing truck the next day, while simultaneously writing the order for the upcoming truck.
It sucks that dairy is lumped in with grocery. I wish it was seperate but it won't happen. Dairy is an underrated department. Plus dairy leads would be paid more and would be granted their own department hours if it were seperated.
Like I said, won't happen. Now it looks like they will be going away with Nutrition and blending it with grocery/dairy, meaning we gotta worry about that crap on top of our own crap.
oh yes, everyone is saying the same thing. I guess it proves i'm not alone.
We have store walks coming on top of all this, and store management that won't hire anyone for our department, but will also refuse overtime. One person cannot reasonably get everything done that is expected when you are working by yourself all day in a department like this. several times i have been ready to walk out but i know i can't, and i wouldn't want to leave the others in my department behind... but how much longer is this going to go on? If we do somehow pull out a miracle and pass this store walk, all it'll do is show them that we can "make it" on the amount of people we have now... making problems even worse.

I have thought of that often. We are encouraging the vicious cycle by getting by with the skin of our teeth. If the store walks all FAIL, is it possible they might actually have to start increasing hours in the scheduling for us????????????

I wouldn't count on it. I think it's far more likely store management would simply put on more pressure/be more likely to toss around threats of being demoted if stuff doesn't improve. As someone that's worked for Kroger for almost seven years now, I'm seeing more and more department heads/back ups quitting/stepping down than ever before, and Kroger still doesn't care one bit to address the reasons for this. This is why things are only getting worse and worse in stores.
Name your KMA (Division), lets see how far across the county all of are feelings go!
There has to be a correlation on how all this stuff has changed and/or who caused it!
Louisville Division. Ann Reed just promoted to president of this division a few months ago (May? 2017)
Hours are being cut for most departments (over the last few months). Unhappiness abounds. You can see it on the faces and general attitude of alot of employees here.
Delta division. We need to hire people and schedule them . Example not have all your help on a Sunday morning and Senior day have no help . ANOTHER example first of the month No help ..
Cincinnati/Dayton division and yep same story here obviously.
They don't treat us any better just because we are closer to the corporate headquarters that's for sure.
I have been that way for a while. I am the only person in the department and still have to get everything done. Things get piled up because there just isn't enough hours in the shift to get everything done. Several other people stepped down before I got this position and I was told that wasn't an option for me. So it's either bust my ass and do it all or be unemployed.
Relax.. Do what you can do. Cover your butt. Ask the Manager of the store what he wants you to prioritize. Explain you are doing your best. You wont be terminated for this. Ask for his help and guidance. This puts you on the offense. Don't be combative, but when asking someone for guidance, you are the good guy.
Haha, It actually used to be. You used to go into work, do your job and actually feel kinda satisfied. Now, you have to play a game of chess to actually get 1 thing accomplished! OH....and have like 3 different backup plans available to get that 1 job accomplished too!

lol. Yeah, and I don't even deal with many customers overnight.....But, I understand dodging customers to get tasks done and trying to not get side tracked.
My chess game starts when people decide to call in.
Agree the pay needs to be raised and more scheduled. I can't see how Wally world ( Kroger's competitor ) has lower prices, more hours, more people, a little bit more pay than kroger ( overnight stockers get paid more than kroger overnight. ), and plenty of overtime, yet Kroger is struggling to find more people and give out less OT. Something needs to be done, or they'll start losing tons of good people. You can hound a person so much til' they quiet. Seen alot of good people quiet because of those reasons.
In the end EVERYONE will have their breaking point and decide to move on. From the many post here one can see this company has no intent to help it workers get their job done. Yet, they can sure SELL the image to everyone else they are giving you a job that is progressive and can make a career (what a JOKE!)
The stress will build up till is HURTING you and then you must make a decision!!
When I get home tired after work, I like to put off my business and sleep for a few hours or watch a TV show. It really is relaxing. But recently, when I had guests at home, they broke my bedside table. In the end, I had to look for a new one. It was a very difficult task. Fortunately, I found a company from which I was able to buy bedside tables. If you also need this, then get more info
