What is Kroger's policy on closing stores due to inclement weather?

We had a huge snowstorm here in Atlanta and my part of town got over 8 inches of snow. Many people were not able to come in on Sunday/Monday due to being stuck in their subdivisions. Publix made the decision to close between 7 and 8PM Sunday night. I was told the only way Kroger would close is if there was a complete power failure to the store. Does Kroger have an official policy on closing? if not-they SHOULD! Or does it vary between regions?

I do not believe there is a "Corporate Policy", I believe they leave it up to the Division to "Do what is right for the Company and the Associates". The problem comes down to Kroger offering necessities to customers and possible the only option for some shoppers. I have lived though riots, snow scares, blizzards and wind hurricanes and the stores never closed......while you might not offer ALL services just being open as a "Safe Place" helps the community. Store Management should not expect ALL associates to be able to make it, but some should be able to get there. I had people liveing 30 miles make it to work, but the person living down the block tried calling off due to the weather. On days with bad weather, the store needs minimal staffing......because 95% of customers are not leaving their house.

Well I am also in Georgia 130 Miles from coast. The last hurricane we had it got pretty bad here just about the whole town was out of power and just about every employee called in. The local law enforcement put a curfew out. So the manager decided to close. Well Zone staff had a fit and they came up. I went by the store zone staff was standing at the door and did not look happy I was just reading the sign to see what time the store reopened. The store manager was harassed he left because he lives in another town. His big boss was calling him asking if he really think he should have left. I mean for real he lives out of town and needed to get home before the storm. He came back like 60 miles driving through the storm. They did not tell him he had to he just did. So yes they have a fit when stores close even when the law issues a curfew. It was Hurricane Irma.

One time the store I was working at had MAJOR issue and we had to evacuate. I thought it was funny how the KMA/District team told us to call them before doing anything like that @10pm on a Friday night. What really make it more interesting was another Kroger Associates from drove my and asked what was going on, said we had done the right thing. We lost power and were never allowed to close, it gets really cold/hot when HVAC isn't working and your lucky to have lights.

I complained about this a few posts down but I completely understand. I live in a semi-rural area without a lot of lights so the roads are easy to hydroplane or skid off since no one salts roads that don't begin with I in front. I tried to call out and was guilted into coming in. The store was really bad in some parts of my route to work. I also worked to the hurricane weather this fall, too. Profits over people. The Kroger way. Schools were closing early but we were open like normal. Super frustrating because it's not always safe. Not to mention when the power flickers, we end up losing systems for quite awhile and customers leave anyway. We were running out everything over the weekend. And our cold truck was late because the workers didn't want to get to the warehouse on the roads. Can't blame them, either.

I live in Texas and when we had an ice storm the store stayed open and ran on s generator.there were minimal lights and the belts didn't run in the registers. We only closed when the generator was about to run out.
