Not yet, but were supposed to get ScanBagGo very soon, so I wouldnt be surprised if Edge came next or with it. How much easier or harder does it make file maintenances job? Any downsides?
The major downside I'm getting is what about them getting rammed with carts and jacks and other things that are inevitable. It's not going to be a cheap replacement shelf from the stockpile.
Correction, Electronic Shelf Screens...while most will only be showing pricing, I'm sure they will try to advertise on them sooner then later and then have switch to pricing when someone is standing in from of them.
Kohls has had something similar for years, and theirs suck.
Kroger is like a stingy but enthusiastic dad with technology. They like the idea of it, but won't pay for it. So we get stuck with a third-functional bargain basement solution.
Our scanning coordinator is a stumbling retard and everyone hates overnights, so we are drowning in old tags.
Kroger Edge seems like the miracle cure, but I don't trust Kroger to get anything right.

The plastic channel strips are a colossal failure: the only thing they're good at is falling down.

And a pain to re install. I can't get half of them to snap back on. I think they redesigned the plastic strip so it is supposed to be easier to re install.

The ones in frozen food are the worst, always coming loose at the slightest provocation. After that any channel's on the meat wall and bottom shelf of any aisle are always being torn up by passing carts. I wonder though how this will affect scan coordinator hours? I have no doubt it'll result in cut hours but will they essentially eliminate the position and shift any remaining workload to other departments (where the additional hours will magically disappear)?
Being that File Main hours were cut years ago I wouldn't think it would really effect them. If anything they will turn into Shelf Placement Coordinators, making sure items are matching the display. Kroger Edge is just something to put in the news and get media attention. Years ago there we going to introduce Kroger TV in the Store/Checkout, like what Walmart used to have. Scan Bag Go was a very small pilot that didn't really gain a large percentage of customers, but yet its being rolled out National.... why? Media Attention......something to put in the news. If anything SBG was just an easy way to eliminate checkouts and add more SCO's without having to clearly tell customers Cashiers are getting eliminate in the long term.

Yep... we're getting SBG with our upcoming remodel, and we're also losing around half of our front end traditional check out lanes to make room for more self check outs (we already have six). No one has said it officially, but they are clearly trying to divert more traffic to SCO/get customers to switch over to SBG so that they can cut back on cashiers/baggers.
It wouldn't surprise me if Edge was a part of the upcoming remodel, considering how significant this remodel is. We were one of the first stores in the division to get ClickList, after all, so we've kinda been a pilot store for this stuff in the past before it gets rolled out throughout the rest of the division.
Pilot is what they call early roll out, Pilots in most normal peoples minds are a few locations testing something. Calling it a Pilot in every divisions just gets people excited thinking they are trying something new, with them also thinking they are the 1st and have some input. Kroger Edge I believe it going to be rolled out at higher volume stores in select locations and only in high traffic shelves in the store. In reality, I can see Edge shelves being places at eye level and Kroger Precision Marketing using these as a revenue stream for marketing items. I can not see Kroger Edge being on every shelf as these are expensive and will eliminate some shelf space.
If you look at most of Kroger's technology, its outdated and only face lifts are placed on top of the legacy system. The biggest systems in the stores are outdated and dinosaurs in the industry....CAO, POS.

Why invest in systems when we can pay that money to managers?
Just hound the workers into going faster. That is the pill to cure all Krogrr ills.
Its all about execution....but if you look at stores in my division, all the new associates are minors or individuals that are not putting a good 1st impression with customers.
