Almost got into a fight with coworker
Permalink

This punk kid since hired, has constantly found it amusing to block my path when I'm coming and going trying to work. Be it me just coming in he will stand in my way, I attempt to walk around he side steps blocking the entrance to the back hallway she my pallets of work await me, or he will walk in front of me and stop dead in his tracks while I'm pulling a heavy pallet.

Tonight he did this then got in my face, I pushed him out of my face and told him to leave me alone and stop blocking my path. The evening manager was notified and took statements. Just curious what my odds are of being in trouble. He admitted in his statement he was standing in my way on purpose.

Hard to say. I'd get the union involved quick, work place violence is an almost automatic firing a n y where these days, even if it's just you defending yourself.

Are there cameras? Was management notified after the 2nd or 3rd instance of him doing this?

Oh, you never told management about this? And you tried to handle it on your own by aggresively using physical contact?

Then darn. Good luck with that. As the other guy said, get the union involved asap.

Your odds of being in trouble skyrocketed the moment you touched him. Before that, he and he alone was in the wrong. Now though, because you were the one that actually pushed him away from you, it has become a lot more serious. Since you can't take back the past, all you can do is admit you had a lapse in judgement and that you learned a lesson from this with that lesson being to go to management first when confronted with a problem like this and not let your emotions take over. Hopefully, your store manager will take that into consideration, but...I'd say probably every "consequence" is on the table when it comes to this sort of situation. Good luck.

It appears you were off the clock as you said you were coming into work. I doubt very seriously anyone is getting into trouble-what you do on your own time is your business

Off Kroger property that's pretty much true. On? Not so much.

True. You should have not laid hands on first. You may not have much of a chance. Even when he got in your face. Contact the union and ask instead of being fired, ask that you can be transferred to another store, or ask for shifts different from his so you have little to no interaction.

maybe you were worried you will run him over if you can't stop the pallet on time? since he stepped in your way deliberately in the last moment? I think you pushing him out of your way was the only way to protect him. Doesn't matter if you can prove it or what the camera shows. That was your mindset.

next time make sure you are off the camera when you kick his ass as he rightfully deserves it. what an ahole.
