I'm certain it varies but can some grocery managers let me know what they typically expect the adh to do other than just stocking?

What is ADH?

Are you interested in day grocery or night grocery?  Dry grocery, Frozen, Dairy or Nutrition?

ADH here is responsible for managing night crew, as grocery manager is daytime now. Also responsible for reviewing orders after refresh and doing code dates.

The ADH does everything the Night manager does when the night manager is off for the night or on vacation.

Here, it means getting the crew to get the work done without goofing off.

Order, receive trucks, check fast alerts, handle emergencies, fill out DDP, make sure all tasks are completed and keep everyone moving to get the job done.

We run live stock and backstock at night.  Our day crew builds ends, run blue totes, occasionally runs backstock, check code dates and replenish water.

I take two days off in a row and my back up is always glad when I get back. It is not for the faint of heart.

It is good experience if you want to be a night manager and make more money.

Questions....

Shippers:

.Are you required to place them in a specific location?  Not always.  It is dependent on where the store manager and the grocery manager want them to go.  Free Friday download shippers go on the front end in a certain spot near registers.   Other shippers either get used for endcap shelves or are wings.  They are only allowed in the middle of the aisles during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

.Are all of them required to be on display?  No.  The goal is to get them off the floor and onto the shelf as quick as possible.  Shippers are cheaper than ordering a case.  Basically, the store pays for them in bulk.

.Can you only put them out starting on a certain date?  General rule is as soon as they are delivered.  The exception are special products.  Blue Buffalo dog food(that pallet sat in backroom for a month before it was released) was one and Oberon beer is another that comes to mind.  GM has specific dates that they can start building the seasonal aisle.

Catalogs:

.what are all the grocery catalog numbers -or- where can I find a list for them?  Hmm, I don't work with all of them.  As a night manager, I work mainly with these:

01-Grocery.  Changed over to 02 here about a year ago.

33-Specialty(blue totes)

69- Peyton

09- Chips

21-Nutrition

?- Dairy

?- Frozen

CAO:

.what does it mean when you see - OnOr 0^  I want to give poster kroagrr credit for revealing this to me.  The ^ means there is a distro of that product in your stores' future.  Cntrl E shows you when and how much.  I was playing guess what it means with a coworker and he almost figured it out a few orders before I told him.  I would like to know what highlighted L1 means in the product description on the telzon.  We have seen it on the kro peanut butter crackers for lunch.  I think it has something to do with boh cheating.  Order a case and get 12 packages with 8 individual packages in them.  CAO adds 96 instead of 12 to the boh whenever a case comes in.  Fire logs are the same.  I will have to see if the highlighted L1 is there too.

.Is it true mins get reset every sunday?  No.  F4 will show most changes to mins done by employees in the store.  If mins are changed in Lows & Holes, F4 will not show the change.  I have read on here that Order evolution will pick your min and change it whenever it wants.  I have seen the computer adjust a min from 1 to 2 several times.  Shelf only holds two bags of dog food.

Stocking:

.How do you get the crew to work faster?  If you find the answer to this question, you will be a zillionaire.  Companies all over the world will be throwing money at you.  My theory is people either have a good work ethic and common sense or they don't.   They either know how to stack backstock or they don't.  People are either happy with their jobs or they are not.  Grocery stocking is not rocket science.  I try to bring out the best in my co workers.  I find their strengths and make use of that to get the work done.  One person might throw stock fast and another conditions fast and well.  Most people quit eventually if they don't like the job.  One night manager called the good workers "hungry".  They are glad to have a job and always put their best effort forward.  I was raised dirt poor with 4 siblings and am very glad I don't live on the streets.  The young generation wants everything handed to them on a silver platter.  They all want top dollar without working for and earning it.

The best you can do is time people and get rid of them before their probation is up.  Some people work fast until they are off probation and then they slack off.  It took me 6 months before I found my comfortable speed.  You can normally tell what kind of worker a person is after 30 days.

.How much stocking is typical for the on duty manager?

I spend 2 hours running backstock.  3 hours ordering.  I have 1-4 other people ordering their aisles in the store.  3 hours stocking and conditioning 150 cases.  Canned fruit, tomato sauce, beans and vegetables.  When a person calls in, I run and condition another 150 cases for 2 hours.  Soup, broth, more soup, tuna, chili, spaghetti, seasonings, stuffing, ramen noodles.  15 minutes making schedule.  15 minutes filling out ddp.  30 minutes answering call ins and fast alerts.

You will always be busy or you are doing something wrong.  You either need to train and micro manage your team daily for 8 hours or they act like adults and get their work done while you get other work done.  Years ago, things were different.

If mins are changed in Lows & Holes, F4 will not show the change.

I didn't know that.  I'm constantly--constantly!--trying to figure out who or what fouls the numbers and brings backstock.

. . . Order Devolution will pick your min and change it whenever it wants.  I have seen the computer adjust a min from 1 to 2 several times.  Shelf only holds two . . .

Confirmed that this week while rooting out the reason for backstock.  Shelf (with interference bracket) holds only two; minimum was raised back up to two with explanation text, "AutoAct" where the EUID would be had a person done it.

The way I get my crew to work faster depends on the individual person. Since youll be an assisstant, work with your main head on how to achieve this as a team. Its a lot like paranting, people need consistancy or theyll take advantage, forget, or try to get you to fight with eachother rather than push them.

Some people really like to do the same things everyday and others need to change it up. Some people respond really well to encouragment while others find it demeaning and treating them like a child. Some people work faster with heavy stuff rather than the little stuff, and vice versa. Its about finding that balance with everyone. Some people need a more agressive push. Some people need to be told theyre an adult now that has bills. Some people need an example to follow for inspiration. Some people just need to be left alone sometimes.

I tell my crew to take care of themselves first and be the best person they can be. No drama is needed on a night crew.

It gets frustrating repeating things night after night but were all humans here with our own struggles. Treat them that way, and theyll respond. Just make sure that you know that they can cross your lines and its not gonna be pretty after that. And some people really just arent gonna be super stars. If they can meet your minimum cph, then thats all that really matters. If they cant, get them out of your dept.

also, yeah. Stay busy. I generally do about 2-3 hours worth of stocking a night. They rest is spent on paperwork, sorting trucks, backroom 5s, recieving, phone calls, temps, etc.

I checked what I posted about min changes in lows & holes not showing up in F4.  I was wrong.  It did show last night when I made changes.  I don't know why I thought that.  I swear I tried it a month ago and it did not show up.

Sorry for misinformation.
