Yesterday when I was working at one of the express lanes, the current customer I was assisting left to get another gift card since the one he originally got was only for $25.00, and he wanted one for $50.00.
So the customer who was waiting behind him asked me "Where did that customer go to?"
I told him that he went to get another gift card.
His reply was "This is the express lane. This is supposed to be the fast lane. Not the slow lane."
Actually, I hate the "Express Lane" name, they should have just named it "Small Orders". Checkout is only as fast as the customer and the associates..... Express Lanes are being eliminate from SBG/FET stores...
LOL I'll be like sorry he'll be back in a sec. To be honest that sounds like the customer would be back before you could hunt down an overide to suspend it. So tough... people need to learn to wait their turn.
It might be possible to void it without a manager if it's a small order.
We used to have to void items one by one until the total was zero before we could void it, but now we can just "Void, Total" up to maybe $50 or so. Gift card orders are unusual in that can void orders significantly larger than that, but it's screwy. Sometimes you can just void total it, sometimes you have to void the gift cards first, and sometimes it just won't cooperate.
I absolutely hate it when customers run off for that last item. It ruins my CCG's, and especially since it will take 10 minutes for a manager to come over and suspend it, so I love to just void it. The best part is when a huge order comes up while they are gone and they have to wait.
One thing to be aware of is that certain cards will activate automatically after a certain time period has passed if the order is just sitting there. Organized groups of customers scam up a few thousand dollars that way about every other year.
