Ovens catching on fire?

Hey everybody,

Quick question before work. But I was curious to know if any one else heard about the ovens at the market place locations not being safe? Not the chicken shop ones, but the pizza ovens. I was told about this the other day by a friend/co-worker of mine. That she had heard in passing from someone else that the types of stoves used to make the pizzas needed to be inspected before we used them as there is something that causes them to blow up/catch on fire or other.

Has this happened to any one else before? Kind of has us both spooked to be honest. As I don't think  they may have inspected ours' or not when we moved in.

The only reason they blew up was because an associates placing a can of oven cleaner in it and turning it on.

Yeah. Our deli hasn't made pizza in almost a week now. It's not because of an oven at my store or elsewhere catching on fire, but from my understanding, an employee at some location burned himself/herself pretty bad. Until a fix can be implemented to make the ovens safer, no Kroger store in my area is serving pizza.

Houston. It's the pizza oven for the new pizza restaurant things a lot of stores are getting if they go through Space Op

Dang. Our's are still up and running on the daily at my store. Word must not have spread to the Ohio area just yet, aside from through the regular clerk grapevine. I hope whomever got hurt is doing better though too. hmm

All of the ovens in the Columbus division are supposed to be on lock out tag out. I am at a marketplace in the Columbus division and it was sent through email over a week ago that we are not supposed to use them at all. They even have signs hanging up in front of the made to order station in front of the pizza part of it. There were only a few stores

I do miss occasionally getting a slice of pizza from the deli when I go on break because it's decent pizza, but I'd rather the safety issue be addressed first because I obviously don't want to see anyone that works in the deli suffer a minor let alone major burn. Do whatever it takes first to ensure the safety of the employees, whether it be modifying the ovens to be safer, training employees in proper safety procedures or a combination of the two.

On a related note, the deli would sell a lot more pizza if the price per slice wasn't $2.99. I know it's a big slice, but the deli at my store ends up tossing A LOT of pizza because it doesn't sell fast enough and ends up sitting out too long. It used to be on sale for $2.00 per slice and even then, there was still quite a bit of waste.
