Our shrink in the bakery has always been less than 5%. I've worked there for almost 30 years. I look at a report and suddenly our shrink is over 74%. We're not marking down or scanning out any more than we have in the past. Also, it has our sales listed as a negative number. So that means, according to those figures, that not only did we not sell anything, but we paid people to take the merchandise out of the store.
It turns out the sudden drop was due to the people out at the office screwing up the inventory. We couldn't do inventory this last month because the deli manager had to be off. So they said we didn't have to take it and they would just estimate it. Whoever estimated it did a piss poor job of it. In one month we went from being the third store in the district to dead last. That just doesn't happen.
