Just yesterday my FES told me that our douchebag ASM told her that ALL employees under her watch must wear their name tags or she WILL be written up. She looked him and told him that was NOT happening. And if it does, she'd get her union and they would undo it. Well, that didn't get well with ASM AT ALL. Now ASM has been on her for EVERY. LITTLE. THING. I'm guessing he's doing it in retaliation. But his retaliation against her, is within union protocol so she can't do anything about that part. But can he write her up if employees under her watch don't wear their name tags?
She CAN be annoying at times, I admit, but she is fair, and will let things slide sometimes with everyone. And she does do a good job of keeping front end in line.
Well, as a customer service manager, I can tell you that it is part of my job responsibility to make sure that ALL employees working on the front end are wearing their aprons, are following dress code, and wearing their nametags. If I see that a cashier is without a nametag, I should get the cashier a temporary one. It's not that difficult. If I can't bother to do that, and if I've already been warned by an ASM about the issue, I shouldn't be surprised to be written up. If I can't do my job, what else can I expect? Now, yes, it's the cashiers/baggers/etc. responsibility to wear their nametags. But it's my responsibility to enforce that policy and ensure that they're doing it. If they aren't, I should follow up with those employees, get them temporary name tags, and if it is a constant issue, I should address it with that employee, up to, and including a write up. If I can't do that, I have no right being a CSM and certainly have no right to complain if I get in trouble for not doing my job. Seems like common sense to me...
But if she tells asm the ones not wearing tags whine and complain and its implied she's 'picking on them.' I would suggest she ask the asm what shes supposed to do if it comes to that and how to make them wear their badges, but it's not my place. I just listen and not get involved if possible. Maybe she should go to the actual store manager.
In reality is the CSM/FES job to set the standard. I used to always greet associates with a hello followed by a tuck in your shirt and where is your name badge. If associates know what you expect they will either get inline or they will get your personal attention every day....... If anything have the FES give a list of associates that are not wearing their name badge to the ASM.... the FES can only do so much then its the ASM to correct the associate.
I honestly dont think she can. You cant force someone to wear their name badge. I was asked once to run fe but I declined. Because I don't play. I'm there to work. And plus I'm not gonna pick up the slack for lazy co-workers who can't (refuse) to do their share
You're required to wear a uniform. The name tag is part of it. Says so in every contract.
Yes you can be written up for refusing to wear your uniform/name tag. The issue is if you (the CSM) can be written up for someone else (another FE employee) refusing to.
I haven't worn a name tag in at least 7 years. Occasionally a manager gets on me about it and I wear it for a few days before I "lose" it again. Then it takes another few months to a year for someone to notice again. From time to time I have a manager ask "where's your name tag?" and then when I say I forgot it they drop the issue.
I've often wondered what's the point in wearing name tags at your job? I mean if it's so they know who to yell at when a customer complains, half the time the customer can't even remember the employee's name anyway. I just hate it when a customer calls me by my first name and I have no idea who they are. If you have to call me something, then call me sir or Mr.

Yeah, I hate it. I would prefer it if they let us make up names to use at work. I have a pretty distinctively spelled name (thanks, parents) and I'd hate to think of some crazy ******* customer looking me up online and hunting me down. There's some real nutjobs out there.
I would think that with all the challenges Kroger now faces, someone not wearing a name tag would be pretty low on the list. You have to choose your battles carefully!

Please.
Kroger's "battle plans" look like they were drawn by a four-year-old Napoleon with a crayon.
