My store just had six new SCOs installed last week which makes a total of 22. (We're a big two-story store...no Scan, Bag, and Go). Well, the new ones look exactly like the other 16 that we already had (Toshiba System 6) but they installed a new feature that I actually really love. We can still use the bulky handheld, but if we only want to scan items, we can use the scan gun from the attendant station. Each robot has a small barcode that we scan, it then transfers the scan gun to that robot and it allows us to scan the customers' bulk items. You just have to remember that when you move on to another robot, you need to scan that robot's barcode. It scans so much better than the handheld device. When they were installing them, they told us that there are no more handhelds being ordered. Once they die, they're dead. We will be using the attendant feature on the robot along with the scan gun only. Apparently they're going to add this feature to the remainder of our SCOs, but I'm sure that'll be a while.
