Why does Kroger go bat s*** crazy when customers bag their own groceries?

In the grand scheme of things that is probably the LAST issue Kroger needs to be worried about. How about more hours, better store staffing, getting rid of managers that harass employees for starters?!?

Kroger goes apesh*t because in their eyes "employees don't do enough" (when in truth, sometimes we do FAR TOO MUCH...like give a $15 gift card for a customer who flies into a tizzy because of something they want they normally cannot have; like an extra percent off a sale, free product for something we normally dont carry etc. They want us to bend over backwards and kiss the customers' @ass.

Well, I love to say it, but I'm not sorry...I'm not going to kiss anyone's @ss

Uh I dunno whats up with your store but at mine nobody cares if a customer bags their own stuff. Some even prefer it because they have a system or whatever, which is fine. There are other lanes a bagger can go to or if there is no bagger it saves the cashier the trouble so they can start ringing someone else up.

Do any of your stores that have an express line (15 items or less) assign a bagger to them? Ours don't

We have an express lane and our baggers are normally NOT allowed to bag on there if its 15 items or less. The checker can do the bagging. HOWEVER, despite us having an express lane, we are NOT allowed to direct a customer to another lane if they come to Express. Makea me wonder why even have an Express lane at all
