I found out that a couple of co-workers got suspended for just a few days. It got me curious as to how the whole process goes. Can anyone help me out here?
Usually after a few verbal coachings you get written up. Write ups follow you for 6-9 months then after that they disappear (lay dormant in your file waiting to reawaken if you ever get fired and go to arbitration to get your job back). Suspensions follow you as long as you work for Kroger. They NEVER disappear. EVER. and hope you never get suspended indefinately. Because that WILL screw up ANY unemployment you may be entitled to, and there is nothing you can do about it. (As far as I know.)
However there was one case my store indefinately suspended one of the employees and it was going on 3 weeks. Well, somehow he got hold of the override and managed to punch himself in. It lasted a week before he was discovered and promptly fired.
One coworker recently had a 3 day suspension right after her week vacation. Took 10 days off.
It is a progressive process.
You get several verbal warnings, then a few write-ups and then suspended. You will know when you are very close to suspension because you will be warned during the last write-up.
I swear my coworkers keep track on a calendar. A few will get all the way and get a 3 day suspension for attendance. Then, they won't have any attendance issues for 3 months(90 days).
Once the 90 days is up, they start calling in again. I always use my vacation and ph days when I know people can't call in.
I successfully fought a write up in my store. I had proof and witnesses that it didn't happen and to make a long story short it backfired on the manager that did it and SHE ended up with a verbal disciplinary and note to her file after all was said and done
