Say you get asked to come in 9-5 on a day you were scheduled to be off and you say yes as a favor. And then say something comes up ad you need to leave before 5. Could you get in trouble for that, since you weren't even supposed to be there to begin with?

Has this already happened or is it going to happen?  If it's the former, then I wouldn't worry about as long as they know you had to leave and didn't just clock out without telling anybody.  In the future though, if you know you can't work the full shift they want you to work, just tell them beforehand.  You'll also learn not to do Kroger any favors.

It's going to happen. I felt pressured into agreeing to it, but I said yes. And I was going to work the full shift tomorrow but I actually came down with a bad case of food poisoning just now. I don't feel up to working the whole shift or any of it really, but if I call off they're just going to think it's because I didn't want to go in.

Just tell them something suddenly came up.

And if all else fails, just actually bring it up...

Your lunch, that is.
