I don't get my check mailed to me. Too big of a risk of it being lost or stolen in the mail and then you have Kroger put a stop payment in it and wait for them to issue you a new check when they are ready to do so.
I get direct deposit. It makes d@mn sure it goes into my bank each and every time.
I really don't want Kroger to have my banking information!

Just get something like a Chime card or Netspend. I had Netspend and I was paid by 6 PM on Wednesday. As far as the check going to your house I trust the bank more. When I left I got my 401 K out I had it mailed only because it would take a long time through the mail. And I used overnight I got enough that I could afford to get it overnight. Then I had to go to a liquor store to cash that much. I was nervous carrying so much money around I put it in a safety deposit box.

You need not give them this information. Most just do it so they don't have to worry about the checks getting lost, not arriving, getting sent to the wrong address, going to the bank weekly, ect. If you don't give them your info they'll just mail it to your address on file. So long as it's correct you'll be fine. Even if you deposit it they still know your bank account info because the bank transfer's it over from them to yours. If you cash it first then deposit it then there's no way to track it.
