He claimed the price was wrong-it wasn't-wanted a $5 refund. Cashier explained that we can't give refunds due to Georgia law. Customer told cashier to "f*** off"

Sounds legit. Customer is always right. Cashier jipped him of 5 bucks. Cashier should be written up and apologize. You all need to VALUE US!!!
Actually, according to Georgia law, alcohol can be returned if it's spoiled or otherwise unfit for human consumption or purchased in error. The only thing you can't do is give it away for free.As long as the container wasn't opened and the packaging was intact, you should have given the customer the refund, especially since the customer had just purchased it. Speaking of purchasing, if the dispute happened while the customer was purchasing the item, why didn't the cashier just void the item off? At that point the customer had not purchased the alcohol. Only when money exchanges hands does the purchase actually occur.

Our registers in our store (Local 1996 area-Atlanta GA) won't let cashiers void alcohol purchases after it has been rung up and paid for.
We had to tell a senior that he could no longer get the single airplane bottles for $0.99 each. The prices would raise and he would bi-tch up a storm about it. So the cashier would be forced to call a manager or he would tell the cashier f*u-ck- off. It eventually got to the point of I was getting fed up with his half a-s-s-ed attitude towards us so I went to management. Management told staff that due to this customer we were on the verge of loosing our liquor license for price over riding his daily habit. Everyone was on the same page and would be written up for it. He stopped shopping here like that because he could no longer get his cheap liquor bottles. It's against the law to sell it below cost and that's what we were doing for this jack a-s-s- of a customer. I think he's dead now due to his age but he was such an a-s-s hole having nothing better to do each day other than tell the cashiers 10 min from his house to f-u-ck off.
