I was out on the lot and from time to time I have mobility issues (due to arthritis) as I did today. Woman starts to put small cart up on the grass and I said that it didn't belong there that it had to go into the outside cart corral or inside. I had a few minutes later brought a rack of cars in where she came up behind me and admonished me about "it would be better for your store" and started to lecture me on "customer service." I told her outside that I didn't want her to be responsible if the cart got loose and hit another car (our parking lot is considered private property.) I told her 2 or 3 times repeated that I had mobility issues and that I had a disability. She finally gave up and left my inside cart area.

I put carts wherever **** your cart rules. Ive seen a few times the strong winds blow carts in the lot so fast and watch them slam into cars lol its great.
And I'll bet you anything, if a cart slammed into your car because some lazy a$$hat customer did what you did, you wouldn't be laughing. You'd be super p!ssed off.

It's not your place to tell customers where to put their carts. You are not their mother. What you should have said is, "I'll take that for you. We wouldn't want it to accidentally roll into another car." A similar thing should be said whenever you see a customer leaving an item where it doesn't belong. You come across as being helpful but it also lets them known in a subtle way that they shouldn't have done what they did.
Agreed. At our store we CANNOT under ANY circumstances tell a customer a cart "doesnt belong" in a specific area unless it poses an IMMEDIATE danger to themselves or others.
The reason for this being is that the company prides itself on being for the customer. If we tell a customer to put their own carts away, get their own price checks, we might as tell them to do their own caryouts, get their own carts, etc.
Original poster here. Several years ago we had a cart hit a very expensive car (I think it was a BMW) and the woman was in our store over 3 hours threatening to sue. She was serious about wanting compensation on the spot. Our manager at the time said that we as a store could not do anything and to contact corporate. We never saw her again after that

How did the cart happen to hit the BMW? Was it due to the actions of an employee or a customer?

Not really cause the car I drive I dont care about.
This whole thread is hilarious. To the OP sorry about your Mobility issues I also have issues and that is one reason I had to leave. I was being told to do things that I was not able to do or if I did them I had problems. But if the cart is up on the curb on the grass all 4 wheels then it should not roll. And you should not say anything but I kinda understand you were frustrated sometimes it's just hard to hold it in. I held so much in over the last few years I knew if I did not get out I was gonna blow my top and really pop off.
