It depends upon the caretaker. Pets should be bathed twice a week but most people only do a few times a month or after heavy exorcise. Safeway had rat lady and her rats were unsanitary. Her rats were leaving droppings where ever she went. Emotional or not hygienically they were unsanitary around food. Our store has an issue with people bringing in non service animal dogs. If it doesn't have a service vest it's not welcome.

I wish our store held up to that policy. We had a clerk get into BIG trouble and was forced into extra coaching because he said "beautiful service animal." My guess is that he came on too strong or emphasized service animal. Either way the lady got mad and made a complaint.

Even if a dog has a service vest, if it's an "emotional support animal", that's not a real thing.  All kinds of articles about it.  It's actually a huge deal because people who actually have trained service dogs to help them with infirmities are having trouble getting on airlines with them anymore because so many people are just buying "emotional support animal" tags and vests off ebay, for any type of untrained and unqualified pet and the pets are causing trouble. Unless it's a real service animal, it's like bringing your shedding pet into the kitchen in a restaurant. It's unsanitary, and should be against health code.
