I've been at Kroger for a couple of years now. I normally just cashier (which I like) but once or twice a week I'll sometimes be have a shift at customer service (which I don't like as much but I put up with it) and on rare occasions I'll have to do self scan (if someone is on vacation. I hate doing it). I'd honestly just rather cashier and my CSM tries to work with me on that. He and I get along pretty well and I respect that he respects my wishes that I just want to cashier.
Last week though he told me that he was going to start scheduling me to train to become a floor supervisor. I told him that I appreciated the confidence he has in me but that I didn't want to be one. He said that he was told by management that new cashiers were recently hired and that we needed more floor supervisors (we're down to three right now, including the CSM) so he said he was told to pick the most responsible cashiers and schedule them as floor supervisors. I again thanked him for the compliment but asked him he could pick someone else to be a floor supervisor and he said that he only has three people that he trusts enough to promote.
My question is can they just schedule me as a floor supervisor even though I have asked to not be one and don't want to be one? Don't I get any say in the matter? I really would rather just come in for my eight hours, focus on my job as a cashier and leave. I don't want to deal with all the stuff I see the current supervisors have to deal with (that's why so many have quit and we're short now) especially because there's no extra money involved.
If you don't want to do it, there are two things you can do. The first is call in sick every time you're scheduled to be floor supervisor. The second is tos376d do such a lousy job at that they no longer ask you to do it.
If I keep calling in sick though they're gonna write me up repeatedly and I'll get fired.
I can try to do a bad job but I feel like my CSM is gonna be able to tell I'm doing it on purpose because he knows I'm competent. That's the reason I'm among the three that he wants trained as floor supervisors. They have four new cashiers lined up to be trained next week and once they're trained they're supposed to take our spots cashiering.
I want to remain a cashier and not be a floor supervisor but my CSM is giving me the impression that management isn't giving him a choice and he is required to make three people floor supervisors in the coming weeks and because he doesn't have a choice I guess I don't get one either??
Just say being a FES is something your not interested in. I would say to try a few "slow" shift and see if it might grow on you. I wouldn't make anyone do anything they didn't want to do, as long as I had other options. If a cashier didn't want to run SCO, I would just schedule them as a cashier. If scheduling someone as only a cashier, then others might come in earlier to run SCO, FES or other tasks you wish to not do.

Seriously... They can't make you take a position if you don't want to. Just tell them youre happy where your at right now end of discussion.
You don't have to be forced to do anything. I would suggest it just because it looks good on the resume. You can always step down a few months to a year later. Not only does it give you training for leadership rolls it gives you advancement opportunities. I wish I took the opportunity to get the fes training when I was new because years later when I want to do it I'm denied the opportunity.
