Viruses don't just go away just because people are staying apart from each other.  The virus is still there and as soon the social distancing guidelines are lifted, the number and severity of cases is going to go up.  You can't hide from a virus.  The only way to defeat it is if enough people become infected and develop immunity.  For that to happen, two thirds of the population would have to become infected and develop immunity.  Another way to become immune is from a vaccination but that's a long way's off.  In the meantime efforts should be towards treatment of the most severe cases.  People who think they may have the virus but are showing only mild to moderate symptoms should simply stay home and let the disease run its course.  Health care workers and hospitals are becoming too overwhelmed by people who really don't need to be there.

Mostly the distancing is just so others don't cough on you. As long as you're a fair distance away and aren't actively touching people then you're fine. Some people are taking the whole "six feet away"-thing WAY too literally. This virus isn't airborn and is spread by touch and bodily fluids - hence why they stressed "don't touch your nose and face" as well as "don't hug or shake hands".

Boy you really are just that stupid huh? You do realize there are THOUSANDS of people who are carrying the virus and show NO symptoms! The virus can live on cardboard for at least a day and on plastic for 72 hours. Stop spreading misinformation idiot.

People shouldnt stand too close to each other anyway. Personal space is a thing, plus this isnt the only virus out there. The flu this year has also killed thousands.

especially the "How does COVID-19 spread?" entry.

For you to type people are taking six feet away thing WAY to literally is absolute false. Its been proven that if some one coughs the droplets can travel over 2 aisles away. and AGAIN the virus can live on certain materials plastic being one of them for 72 hours. so NO youre not fine if you just dont "touch" people. and AGAIN people can carry the virus and show no symptoms but they can infect others. So you need to educate yourself and stop spreading fake news

If what you say is true, which it's not, then the guidelines should say 30ft away from others instead of 3ft. Take that up with the WHO because they literally recommend 3ft, not 6 ft mind you - 3ft.

Touching people and objects then touching your face before washing your hands OR getting bodily fluids, like when someone coughs, on you is how you become infected it says so on the WHO website. I'm not pulling it out of thin air it's all right there for you to read. People who "carry but don't show symptoms" either 1) have the virus on their skin or hands but aren't infected yet or 2) are infected and cough which tosses small droplets to land on the things and people around them.

If you stay a fair distance (3 to 6 ft) away from others, aren't actively toughing people or objects, and wash your hands frequently (NOT just using hand sanitizer - actually washing with soap and water) if you ARE touching things then your risk goes way down - It's not zero though.

When I say that people are taking it too literally I mean that if I'm 5.5ft away from you and am not coughing then you're probably fine. It's not a rule - it's a guideline.

I'll retort you with this - stop fearmongering.

I think they need to do a study on why the virus has no effect on so many people, but is deadly to a certain few.  It's not the virus itself that causes the problem, but it's the body's reaction to it.  I've read where people who say they never get the flu, myself included, actually do become infected but the body's reaction to the infection is unnoticeable.  In others, the immune system goes into overdrive and that's what causes the complications.  So having a robust immune system is only good if it stays under control.

I think they need to open all the businesses back up to the public and do away with social distancing so the virus can spread around and people can develop immunity.  Those who become sick should only be hospitalized if they need to be put on a ventilator.

To show how ridiculous it's become, this morning I went to buy a newspaper before I went on break.  I like to look through them before I buy one because sometimes there's a section or two missing.  The u-scan clerk fussed because I touched more than one.  Excuse me?  You're telling me not to touch more than one newspaper but yet I'm going to be touching a self-checkout screen that dozens of people have touched already.

if what I say is true when its not? There are articles all over the net about what I posted on it. its being said the virus can travel up to 13 feet and be carried on the soles of shoes. And thats not how carries of the virus work. Stop trying to act like your a expert virologis. Stop spreading mis information.

Just remember, guys...There is a LOT of misinformation AND fearmongering (from all sides) out there and it helps to check out ESTABLISHED, FACT-BASED web sites and portals of information...I'm sure we'll learn more about this thing as time goes on, but we all just have to follow those protective measures as much as possible until we do know more about this disease...

As for me, I'm washing my hands often and for twenty seconds...If you're hands get too raw, you can use a moisturizing lotion...To be safe, I also wash all my clothes in hot water, wash my produce and sanitize any packages before they go in the house...If you don't have wipes, scrubbing with hot soap and water can also be effective at killing this virus...I have a bleach solution, too, that I spray on all my light fixtures, switches, knobs, faucets, door handles, oven and fridge handles, etc. The most commonly touched surfaces, as least...And at work, always use gloves and wear a mask or comparable face protection...

Just curious if it's just me, but have any of you guys seen some interesting headwear in your stores lately? I saw a black lady come in, wearing this welding helmet type visor...We've got a Clicklist guy with a face shield...I've even seen several people walking around in Hazmat suit-type outfits...Do you think it would be weird if I came into work one day wearing a space helmet or one of those things the divers used to wear when they went underwater??? biggrin

Maybe I should pretend it's Halloween and go as John Travolta here...

The estimated U.S. population is 230 million based on census projection.  If two million people test positive for the disease, that's still less than one percent.  Of those two million people 80 percent will have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all.  Now think about the other 99 percent of the population who are likely to become infected and show no symtoms at all.  You, as well as millions of other people, may have already been infected and cured and not known about it.  If scientists could figure out the common denominator that makes some people react so violently to the virus, they could concentrate their efforts helping those who need it and let the rest of us get on with our lives.

Maybe it was a typo, but the estimated population of the US right now is around 335 million.  Some estimates (which are based on assuming there are many unreported illegal aliens in the US) range up to 350 million.

There are THOUSANDS of masks of all types including reusable, washable, long-lasting, available on EBAY, including many unusual and 'cute" masks made of every kind and color of fabric you can think of.  GOBS of people across the country and around the world are hand-sewing masks, some of them are now selling them online. They range in price. I saw some priced at from 5 to 25 dollars, and many are in auctions that are seeing some enthusiastic bidding.  Many are "buy it now" listings. Just do some searching if you really need a mask.

You are right, they give maybe a teensy bit of "psychological protection".   I knew they have little real value, but was still intrigued by the multitude of cloth masks being made by individuals, and bid on, on the ebay site.   Many of them are barely a step above a folded red checkered bandana, but are getting bids left and right.

This virus is making less than one percent of the population sick, and a fraction of those people are dying.  Yet the other 99 percent of us have to suffer because of it.  There's something wrong there.  They meed to concentrate on people who are most susceptible to the virus: the elderly, people with underlying medical conditions. the obese, people with compromised immune systems such as those affected by chemotherapy, and people who for one reason or another always get the flu.  Have all those people self-quarantine and practice social distancing and let the rest of us get back to a normal life.

Hey *******. I will tell you the same thing I am telling people on Facebook :

This is not The Walking Dead.
"Everyone" is not infected.
If you want to live in Walking Dead that badly, you are welcome to move to Atlanta, find a nice quiet street and die in a corner.
Go "look at the flowers" and let the rest of the adults talk. Thank you.

the Social Distancing guidelines and lock-downs are to stop our medical industry from being overwhelmed more so than completely prevent the spread of the virus.  If the media hadn't made such a big to do about the virus, you wouldn't have every Tom, Dick, and Harry rushing to the emergency room every time they got a cough.  It should have been on a need to know basis.  If you came down with the virus, then you would be told that there's something going around.  Otherwise, why worry people over something that most people have a slim to none chance of catching?

On CNN they were saying you would need 2 weeks of quarantine, but it takes an additional 3-4 weeks to get over all the other lingering effects. I'm sure it was in the US and around the world in OCT, NOV, DEC, but no one knew any better. If we have been quarantined for now 3-4, and Nursing Home have not allowed visitors and following higher standard, how are all these Nursing Home Residents being infected? Yes, the Media coverage might have been a little over dramatic, but wouldn't you want to know what is going on? If one person at a public event can infect 100+ people, and those people can then infect another 1-100+ people each!?

Just because those people become infected doesn't mean they're going to get sick.  They've already said said that 50% of confirmed cases are asymptomatic.  Now that's just confirmed cases.  If that's true, then there's probably millions of people who have been infected with the virus but didn't seek medical attention because they showed no symptoms.  Our body's immune system is constantly fighting off all kinds of germs that we don't give a second thought to.  So far the total number of confirmed cases worldwide is a little over 2.4 million.  That may seem like a lot until you realize the total population is 7.8 billion.  That's three hundredths of a percent.  In the United States the percentage of confirmed cases is two tenths of a percent.  Now while I do have sympathy for those people, the actions that have been taken by the different governments and the CDC are hurting the other 99.8% of us.  Open everything back up and do away with social distancing so the population can develop herd immunity.  All the governors can dictate all kinds of rules about business closings and whatnot, but they're not the ones who are being put out of work and being inconvenienced.  All efforts should be towards treatment right now because we can't stay shutdown while a vaccine is being developed.  That could take up to a year.

They should officially change the 'C' to Corona.

Kroger is big on social distancing, then why do we STILL offer carry outs? It should be OPTIONAL to do so. I have stopped asking 100%. If and ONLY if the customer asks, will I do a carryout for them. But as for offering? No.

the Social Distancing guidelines and lock-downs are to stop our medical industry from being overwhelmed more so than completely prevent the spread of the virus. This has been covered over and over again.. "flatten the curve" anyone? Scientist are fully aware and have stated many times there will be a spike in cases when we start slowly reopening stuff...

All "flattening the curve" does is delay the downward trend of cases.  Instead of having a steady rise in the number of new cases each day and then a steady decline, there's a steady rise and then a plateau where the number of new cases each day stays the same.  The problem is it takes longer for the population to develop immunity.  In order to develop herd immunity, at least 2/3 of the population has to have been infected with the virus and developed antibodies.  The longer that takes to happen, the worse the economy is going to get.

I don't blame you at all. CNN has become a propaganda outlet for the Democrat / Hard Left / Socialist party.      They lean:  Anti-American, Anti-Trump, Anti-the common people, PRO-Elite, Anti-truth, Anti-Christian, Pro-abortion, anti-common sense, anti-hard/ honest working class Americans, pro Democrat, pro-Clinton, pro-Pelosi (the CHocolate Ice Cream queen showing off her $24,000 refrigerator while ordinary, lower/middle class Americans are going without paychecks and running low on food----- she is now Nancy Marie Antoinette Pelosi), Pro-Chuck Schumer, pro-death, pro-communism, pro-socialism, pro-AOC, pro-illegal immigrant, pro-dishonesty, pro-extended-extreme lockdown, anti-liberty.

CNN (alternative names---take your pick):  Clinton New Network, China News Network, Communistic News Network, ContraTrump News Network, Coronavirus News Network, Covid-19 News Network, Crapola News Network, Cortez News Network.

The New York Times,  MSNBC,  NPR,  and the Washington Post are not far behind in similar ideologies.   CBS is creeping up, too.  Open your eyes and ears, don't be asleep.

CBS has definitely become more Pro-Liberal and Anti-Trump since Norah O'Donnell took over as anchor.  Of the three major networks, ABC, CBS, NBC, I think ABC seems to be the most balanced when it comes to their reporting.
