I talked to the hiring manager he said he would contact me. I did get an e-mail yesterday saying they found someone else.

I was back in the store today. I was told by 3 people that they heard positive things about me coming back. They said to ignore the email that sometimes people get that.
Why do people get this kind of e-mail? It is discouraging and misleading. I thought Kroger's goal was to uplift in every way? The email just got me down. Then I was told to ignore it. I am not gonna get my hopes up.

I've worked with several coworkers who try to retire but have to come back because kroger financially didn't provide enough to allow for a full retirement. That or they didn't set enough aside for retirement. It's either go back to work or have the power shut off. If you don't need to work there's a million different things you can fill your time with. Some can retire but only realize kroger only allowed for 5-10 years of financial funds. Or find that they can't apply for social security yet so they reapply... Don't be a slave here your whole life unless you have to or want to retain your seniority.
Financially I only put in 50% of the money I want to put into the pension but pensions are not guaranteed and protected finances. The other 50% goes into my personal retirement funds I opened up with my accountant. That way I know there will be at least some thing when I retire.

I am still gonna think this over I get what you mean fun until 2010. That is so true if I go back it sure as hell want be another 25 years. May not even be 5 years. I don't plan on doing 401 k either. I had borrowed before on my 401 K and was paying it back that was killing my check. I will be making a little more than when I left. I don't really care about the pay just want to make a little money but not gonna kiss for it.

The Store Manager really doesn't have to approve, you retired, not fired. As long as you didn't have a previous run in with the Store Manager before you retired, what input will they have? All they can ask is the standard job related questions.

That is what they told me. The Store Manager has to approve. This is a different manager than when I left. But I have worked with him before.
Did you retire on a "sour" note? have issues with this manager or had before? If so, they may have put a 'warning' on your file. But being as you said the email said it was a mistake, then there should be no issue if you want to come back. Unless they are short on hours and it will hurt their (unneeded) bonus, I have never heared needing management approval to rehire a potential candidate

As far as I know everything was good with the Manager when I left, but I did have the feeling he had a problem with me for some reason. And the person who used to hire may have had a problem also. But I did my job and never gave them problems.
He seemed to have only me do things that courtesy clerks could do. Like carts behind the store. I saw them when I was on Vacation several times. They were there when I got back and he wanted me to get them. Why didn't he have someone get them while I was gone? Several things like that happened he waited for me to do things.
But I tell you what. If I do go back I am not gonna be a bitch like that.
So yes that Manager could have put a warning. Also awhile back someone asked why I didn't come back. The hiring manager heard them and made a comment.
"I don't know if we can hire him back"
When I got the email that is the first thing I thought about. There was a red flag not to hire me and the 3rd party saw it. Maybe the new hiring manager saw it and that is the mistake and it needs to be fixed.
This is a new Manager and he knows me he has worked with me in the past. And the last Manager was sent to another store because he was not a good Manager and was sometimes rude to customers.
I am still thinking about this not sure if I really want to go back. When you were done wrong it is hard to trust anyone. And some other things happened I did not mention I had too much workload because other things besides the carts was left for me to do. But I did the best I could do and was offered another job so I put in a week I was told 2 weeks was not necessary I was supposed to start new job.
It is OK if they do not call me. My feelings will not be hurt.
