Cashiers in our store not checking ID for alcohol purchases

Really, go be the snitch and tell a FES. In this situations, Snitches don't get Stitches, your doing the right thing. After you tell the FES, its not your responsibility, in reality, if the Cashier gets caught in a Police sting they get fired, fined and get to go to court.

Eh. As a courtesy clerk, you are exposed to no liability. What do you care?

Don't make waves. It's not worth the attention and you are at no risk.

I cashiered for a few years myself, and it's mostly regulars buying booze anyways. After you check ID's for a few years, you can peg someone's age pretty well anyways.

It is illegal to not check id for an age restricted item. In liquor training class (web computer training) it is law to check it. Report this anonymously to the kroger ethics board/hotline number. You can easily do it online. Not checking id is a great way to loose your job in the long run. If managers are encouraging it leave it in a memo when you report it. It can be simple.

Cashiers are not checking id for age restricted items. Tobacco, liquor, medicines and other age restricted items. I believe the managers are also encouraging this. Please put an end to this.

I always check cause some beer is not worth losing my only source of income over.

As a cashier I always check for ID if the customer looks young enough,but if they're a lot older I just let them slide. If it was up to me I would check all IDs, but the FES that trained me, told me that it was unnecessary to do if they appeared older. What should I do guys because reading some of these comments scare me?

Your FES is dead wrong. The next customer you get at your register could be a "tester" from the County or the Police and if you get caught, it's game over and job gone.

Unless it directly involves you, I wouldn't say anything. They WILL be caught eventually. If they are caught and decide to being you into it, the way out is to say, "The checker should know his or her responsibilities within the checkstand. Therefore I WILL NOT be held accountable for their actions." Be sure to say this in a polite and courteous way; preferably with your union rep present to prevent any backlash that will occur.

I am the original poster-I should be specific and say *if you are bagging for that cashier*-then you ARE a witness and have a responsibility to report it if you see it happening.

Just be sure to do it annonomysly. Call in as a "customer" and report it. The only reason I said to not say anything is because some customers go anal over being asked for ID. EVEN a birth year.i have seen an irate customer wait for a checker to get off work to "beat the living sh*t out of her" for asking for an ID. I waited with her until her husband came and got her. Both were thankful. This customer actually WAITED until she got off.
This wasnt at my store thankfully, but I store I helped out at.
