IDK But they are noisy also. I was talking to a worker. I heard a noise on the roof. The lights were shaking. I looked up and asked what the hell was that? She said oh they are putting on a new roof. I said I thought they were just taking skylights out.
I worked at that store before they allowed front end employees to wear support BLM badges. No Longer. I worked their a couple of years back and the roof leaked so badly they had to shut down an aisle and keep customers from buying items. They tried to fix the leaks in the skylights using some OTC product and it failed, miserably. New manager came in and after a "grand re-opening" the roof still leaked. So somehow the new MGR got funds to remove the skylights and cover them completely. Warning! NEVER go into the back room and see all the mold and mildew build up around the frozen food cooler. It is black and nasty. Not sure how Ecolab, the company that does cleanliness inspections, has not seen it and written them up. Before the "grand re-opening" the store was dark and depressing and the "Kroger brown" constantly makes the store look dirty. Go to Publix or Lidl, or Whole Foods or Trader Joes. This store is terrible to work and shop at.

Interesting, I know of a store the skylights were removed/covered over. I wonder why they still install them and or allow the contractors to install them so poorly if they know these issues could/would happen. Its funny how most other large retailers have standard designs and or store setup, but it almost seems Kroger designs every store from scratch and forget what they learned from all the other builds.
Example: Previously, Produce was always upfront, then they decided to put Produce in the back of the store. Now, Produce is being designed/moved to the front of the store.
Anyone with a mind would know its a better customer perception to have Produce in the front of the store as they walk in "FRESH".

I am not sure we are talking about the same store. I worked for Kroger for 25 years started in 1994 at the old store down the road. Then in 2005 we moved and the roof leaked the first year. Before I left I remember the mold problem in the back restroom. But the Manager would not do anything. The exhaust fan was broke so this is what was done they put a box fan upside down to suck the smell out. Ran a orange drop cord over the door down to a outlet. There was mold build up in that back restroom. This was so crazy to rig it up that way it's really a ghetto store with a bunch of thieves. This store had problems and I was told I had to do things that I should not have top do. And those things have not been done since I left. So that tells you right there that the manager had a problem with me. I am glad I am out of there. Also they put in all new cooler cases around the store where cold items are sold. More doors to have to be cleaned and higher risk people touching and the glasses not staying clean. I tried to go back but for some reason my application was denied.

Yes, depending on the store and the sales/profit, they are more hesitant to invest $$$. While Associates see the Manager as being in charge, they really don't have too much say over some facility issues. They can be in a request, but if the cost is $$$$ the higher ups made the decision. If there was a HUGE mold problem, they def should have done something. As for the new cooler doors, that is simple to save energy. Yes, there are more things to touch, but in reality, if your out and about, you should be taking precautions and these doors wouldn't be a huge concern. OH...if people think just because something is "contactless" they are safe they are fooling themselves. Any surface can be infected and germs can live on them for 1-5 hours. If possible, discard packaging ASAP when able, if an item is shelf stable, let it sit for a day and then touch it.
