Job Change in Orientation chaos

Hey!

So I went in for orientation yesterday, but due to a miscommunication through my interviewer, I was unable to be assigned the job I was applied for (file maintenance). I was moved into a cashier role and they expect me to start work tomorrow without having completed the training modules. I wasnt really given an opportunity to talk this over before it happened. I know this flexibility is expected during the job but I didnt expect it this so soon. Do yall have any advice about asking about leaving because I dont want to waste my time or their time by training for a job I did not apply for? They tried to fit me into other back end positions but it just didnt work out.

Its weird they hired you as File Maintenance, depending on the areas union contact it is a stand alone position or just classified as a cashier/clerk. Normally, File Maintenance is a position they promote a cashier to and isn't normally something they hire directly for. The Interviewer might have noted that as a possible future position, but should have been more clear.

It seemed like they intended to put me in the position of file maintenance without being a cashier (I would learn under the lead file maintenance clerk)  but the one day they needed me most unfortunately did not work in my schedule, despite me being clear I could not work that one day in my interview. The interviewer was incredibly vague and gave the wrong estimate of hours as well. I feel bad for wasting these peoples time but they changed my position after I had signed everything.

 Your story sounds similar to many others, the disconnect is the interviewer has no real connections to positions expectations  Yes, they follow all the HR guidelines, but only are looking to fill the job posting, not find the best fix to fill the position/job.  With retail high turnover, these issues get overlooked as someone not wanting to "do the position", rather then them being hired under incorrect expectations.  How much $$ and time could be saved if only everything was clear from the beginning!  All these levels of HR, but yet the cycle continues.

Most people don't expect to get the "best" retailer job, but they do expect to be given truthful and correct information about the job/position.  But what do you expect from an interviewer (STR Hourly MGMT) that most likely make $11-$15 an hour.

Welcome to kroger.  This is how we disfunction.  My apologies.

I recommend that you find a different job.  I am a lifer and actually like the job I am assigned to at Kroger.  

File maintenance is basically making signs, checking prices and changing tags on the shelves.  Currently, our lead and backup do clicklist most of the time.  Tags are changed overnight two nights a week.

They use people from other departments for changing tags overnight.  So, I too doubt if you would be hired just to do file maintenance.

 Remember, EDGE Shelving was going to eliminate the need to hand tags, signs...etc  I don't understand why they don't have more longer term strategies with pricing to eliminate all the non-sales tags.  Also, why not just eliminate tags and go to what other retailers have one, shelf strip pricing!  So there is a shelf strip for the item placement, and then a price tag on the plastic channel over the strip upc......why not just put the price on the strip and then change the strip when pricing changes.  Call out minimal "great deals" with hanging a tag.

 I vaguely remember reading about EDGE a few years ago in this forum.  And reading that they break easy.  Our file lead mentioned it a few times in passing.  I am a glorified grocery clerk.  I don't think the digital electronics will stand the abuse of being knocked around.

As for pricing directly on the shelf strips, that makes sense.  I don't understand removing old tag and replacing with a new tag with the same price.  The worst area for us right now is toilet paper, cleaning chemicals and paper towels.  What the warehouse sends is sporadic in those sections.  Filling the OOS areas with backstock(directions from corporate) makes getting the right product in the right place more difficult.  The rest of the store is filling up back to relatively normal.

Yup, I don't get the idea of filling OOS with backstock, it just makes the aisle more sloppy and harder to shop.  If you have backstock, the items most likely are not in high demand, so will just sit there. With the cleaning and paper goods aisle, they just really need to eliminate shelf strips(or just turn the strip over) and just tag the aisle daily.  Still stock the specific items in their general shelf area, but don't worry about their planogram location and just make tags daily with what is in stock.  Too many times, items are placed in areas with tags showing prices of other items....

Oh......Scan Bag and Go.... didnt' seem to last too long either.  It was on its deathbed, but then Amazon started AmazonGO stores, so it was rolled out to be something to promote as "NEW" and innovative.

 Hey!

They could be training you as a cashier. Because on some days they are lazy ass customer service people who will call you instead of opening a register their self and they will bug the hell out of you that day. If you get called to open a register twice. Don't expect to get anything done the poor girl at the Kroger where I used to work I seen her be on a register for over an hour. She was so mad her face was red because Managers are on her about tags missing that customers or their kids pull off the shelf.

More lies this dude still works at Kroger. He is the lazy ass and don't do anything. Has been with company 25 years and reason he does not get fired he is special and they feel sorry for him.
