At my store we do not have a designated person to make sure customers wear facemasks (supposedly) therefore they are passing it onto us courtesy clerks. I DO NOT think it's our responsability to enforce the mask policy. With how things are now and how high tensions are, to have cc's enforce it is WAY above our pay rate. Why cant they just schedule someone to enforce it? None of us cc's do it. It's not worth punching someone in the face if they try and throw a punch at you or spit on you.
Are cc's responsible sable for enforcing the mask policy or are they just adding on more for us to do... either way, I'm not risking getting fired if I punch someone for spitting on my or taking a swing at me.

STR MGMT is responsible for enforcing this policy. If anything, just politely say hello and ask if they might have a mask to wear. If after that they are not wearing a mask, its STR MGMT's issue. Customer need to understand, the mask policy is like "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service"......
"I'm sorry you don't want to wear a mask, there are other options available to fit your needs".
We were specifically told in my store that employees are NOT to approach customers who aren't wearing a mask.
In my store we haven't seen too many people without them.

No. The mask policy is not like no shoes no shirt no service. Since there is no hazard pay then kroger is saying there is no pandemic there for no masks are needed unless the person feels safer CHOOSING to wear one. If you complain about people not wearing a mask then shop online and have it delivered or have some one else shop for you or use whatever's store version of there click list.

Actually, you ARE supposed to help out and ask a customer to wear a mask...if they do not have one then offer to FIND a spare one in the store ( you have to actually LOOK for one) and if none are available, ask they cover their nose and mouth with their shirt or even offer a "paper towel" for them to use, then inform them of the mask policy. If they get combative, get management.
At my store everyone, EVEN COURTESY CLERKS are REQUIRED to let customers know of the policy, EVEN THOUGH it is announced and posted throughout the store. Failure to do so is considered a work performance issue, and will be dealt with accordingly.
And don't we see some stupid variations. Just waiting for some clown to try and talk with a sock jammed in his mouth and cigarette butts up his nose.
It isn't worth talking to manager's about some dope that insists on walking through improperly masked. The customers can get action on it but we are required to solve all problems without addressing them. Let managers and security handle everything. Be very professional at all times.
I bet you have all sorts of mask displays scattered around the store. Find the good deal (if any) so you can direct customers to it. Maybe direct them to some other business where Kroger won't be screwing them.
yeah, i've never seen anyone enforce the policy except for one time it appeared there was a bagger at the door but being far away i might not have read the situation correctly. i've also heard but not confirmed that it's not enforced in our region because of how volatile the situation can become. i have heard of the store manager getting on to a customer once. two of the other co-managers tho wear theirs below their nose, which ends up falling below their mouth. i would reach out to your union rep if management is trying to get you to do that. you don't get paid enough for someone possibly to punch you or spit on you.

actually I dont have to do **** and won't. NOT my problem
I guess I am in the minority of employees who happen to be anti-mask. Masks really do not do anything except cause long-term respiratory problems for the wearers. They need to go. End of story. Look at the CDC numbers, less than 10,000 were actually killed by COVID-19. We were fed lies.
