This is f-ing ridiculous...she said a customer can tell you are smiling by your eyes. I told her I can't see her face anyway because of the masks we wear. If this is the most important thing Kroger is worried about their priorities are in the wrong place. I also failed one too for the same reason. My face, my smile, MY business!
They cant see your smile behind your mask. Therefore they NEED to LISTEN to the tone of voice, and watch they eyes and body language. I would say the shop is invalid if she remained cheerful and polite.
And as for smiles, IF and ONLY if I FEEL like smiling will I smile. I will be polite and courteous but I will NOT smile like the d*man chessire cat each and everytime. NOT happening.
I would call BULL**** and contest the mystery shopper results! You can't tell if someone is smiling behind a mask. Take it off the fricking mystery shopping criteria.

I would call this BS also, "Smile" should be NA with the mask policy. Yes, a customer can gauge your willingness to help with your tone and eye response, but that isn't what the "Smile" question is asking. If I was a Mystery Shop Customer and the associated was horrible, it would be NO for everything and then a side note added.
My FES tried to give me that BS about "you smile is part of your uniform." I told her I *own* my smile and Kroger doesn't-it was the end of the conversation! Subject hasn't come up since. My smile-my business!

LOL, with the company not providing a complete uniform anymore, I wouldn't say its part of your uniform. I always like when Associates had a good comeback, my follow up comment would normally take the cake and cause the Associate to think twice before doing it again (unless it was all in good fun).
In a response to your "I own my smile and Kroger doesn't", I would politely say ok, dually noted. Since you "own" your smile and I see your not "owning" it today, can you please "own it" by pushing carts, and then follow that up by cleaning the bathrooms. I know we each "own" are faces, but customer expect friendly associates so I'm going to "own" the FE with mine and everyone else's smile (followed up with me smiling). If that didn't change the associates expression to a happy one....carts/bathrooms would be getting some attention.

Maybe the FES needs to take lessons from Tyra Banks and learn how to "Smize".
